I was skeptical.   However, I saw a huge performance increase.   I was running a few things on high and few on medium with an FPS of 35-65, averaging around 50.  (560 Ti).   My new settings are high for everything and my fps is 45-75 averaging around 65.

Do it.

Yeap agree! I have been reading on forums as well .. The W8.1 gives better gaming performance for BF4.

Also, DorkNRock installed 8.1 and he found it smooth as well.

yea, as much as I was a skeptic too...it dramatically helped me out.  I will admit, W 8.1 was (well still is) a pain in the ass to get used to, but I only crashed out once yesterday playing BF4 in between maps.  Previous days I would average one to two crashes an hour mid map.  I will stand behind the assessment that W 8.1 is the way to go (for now) for more stable BF4 play.  I haven't checked my frame rates yet, but I was able to optimize my settings via NVIDIA experience and not see a decrease in stability or artifacts in game.

I can't speak to the difference between 8 and 8.1.  I upgraded from 7 directly to 8.1 on Tuesday, and had my first in game crash today after playing all day Wednesday without issue.  I am attributing the couple of crashes today to the failed R9 and R10 patches pushed by DICE and EA.  After playing flawlessly on R8, there isn't enough evidence for me to say it's anything OS related, just software IMO.

Should I upgrade from Win 8 to 8.1?

I just got this damn thing working the way I want.1st thing I did was Disable the Metro interface and that damn App store thingy.Mine is loading directly to the Desktop and I installed a small Start Menu alternitive.

Heard that Win 8.1 runs alot better but how much better?

Yesterday I played with some friends. Before the new patch, the Win7 user would crash every few games, my W8 rig would crash every few games, and the win8.1 rig of another player would crash every few hours.

AFTER the patch, I didn't crash once. Because the serve rbeat me to it. The windows 7 user went to play something else, and the 8.1 player crashed four times in one round of Conquest.

So, I'm pretty sure Windows 8.1. won't magically make the crashes go away. It might help, but there's a lot more reasons for crashes than just your Windows version. I'm not sure just how good your start button replacer will work in win8.1, that's worth googling before you try the upgrade.

You can scope newegg for deals, but i just went to Microsoft for the download.  Im sure newegg or tigerdirect will run a sale on the 26th if they don't run one sooner.
