So freaking awesome!

https://soundcloud.com/dlrde/touchdown-philae-on-comet-67p

That's the recorded vibrations of the lander's feet touching down on a rock 1 billion kilometers away and moving at 135,000 km/h !

What you've just heard is a historical moment!

Nerd!

I find it to be a monumental achievement for mankind.

And I'm proud to be a nerd.

Back me up here @@Astronomer .  Isn't this f'ing amazing!   We can land on a comet now!

Absolutely amazing! Think about it: We shot a missile over 600 million miles to precisely intercept the orbit of a tiny piece of dust, after sling-shotting it with gravitational assists from 2 other planets (having precisely calculated their masses - think on how difficult this is). This should have been a live-broadcast on all TV channels! The precision calculations involved here, and the pure validation of what we have discovered about gravity, of motion, of physics, is a major, MAJOR, achievement. Not to mention that we  - humankind - LANDED ON A COMET! Folks, this is rocket -science!

That is bad ass. 10 years ago it was sent into space and it lands its mark 10 years later.

Shows you how limited peoples imaginations are today. If it ain't fake in a video game or fake hollywood movie it is a no investigated. Sad... this is an amazing event. Go Germany!!!!

I'm with @eidolonFIRE  and @@Astronomer on this one.   (except the hard on part)

Whereas this type of amazing achievement is often considered "nerdish"  the intelligence involved in performing such a task is unbelievable to say the least.

Shoot a washing machine sized object into space and land it on a rock in space 10 years later?? . . . . well . . THAT JUST KICKS ASS!!!

It is quite a feat, no one should deny that. I am just saying getting excited by hearing a thud isnt much to go on. A vchoppy video, some pictures maybe.

I agree the "thud" is anti-climatic and if it was a lucky shot . . .well  . . .I would rather be lucky than good
