Hello, I have just upgraded my computer. Now, after reinstalling steam, on a new hard drive, amd installed COD 5 the computer freezes or restarts when loading a new map. Initially I thought my profile was corrupt so I reinstalled Steam and COD5 and started playing with a fresh profile. Same problem when the map changes the computer freezes. Have done it all over again with the same problem. Have you got any idea what the problem could be?

My system is:

AMD 7600X

32gb DDR 5 RAM

RTX 3090

All drivers are up to date.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks

Not familiar with Steam installs but a couple of general things to look at and consider.

1. Try running the game in "administrator" mode and/or in "compatibility" mode.

2. During a map change, don't press any keyboard keys, just wait for map to download and load.  Not sure why this is but find at times, not all the time, this causes the game to crash with an unhandled exception message.  It's an odd thing...

Also make sure your in game screen settings/resolution are the same as your desktop...

You can also try to disable "game mode" on your pc or give a exception

simply type in search on pc for game mode and you will find it

the unhandel exception is an error you get when your map file is different than the one the server is hosting. You have to pat atterntion to which maps are causeing the error delete them and let the server send you a new one. One bit different and you have an error.

Followed all the advise and sometimes it's ok when downloading or loading a map. Having now less crashes. I think I will uninstall Steam and COD5 and reinstall it. See how it goes. Some have mentioned that it would be better running the game from disk rather than using Steam. If it doesn't work  will order the disk and hopefully it works.

Wishing you all a happy 2023!!

When you uninstall the game, back up your profile but be sure to manually deleting any remnants of the game that the uninstall may leave behind.  Like I said, not sure how Steam behaves but know that with a normal installed program, sometimes files are left behind after an uninstall.

Good luck.

Thing is with Steam you never have to uninstall just verify files with Steam...It will remove "everything" that has been added so I would back up maps and player folder...

Login in to Steam, Library, WAW, Properties, Local Files, Verify Integrity of Game Files
