Normal diarrhoea can be controlled by how hard you push.

Explosive diarrhoea has a build up of wind (gas) behind it quadrupling the power of the push,Giving the shotgun effect on the porcelain 

Trying to hit the brakes half way through is impossible with explosive and somewhat possible with normal.
