Ok this should be a wet dream for the likes of RickJames and Wizard....

Budget = £2500 or $4000

Want to get the coolermaster HAF-X case (so you can see I mean business!!!)

lots of memory probably 16GB

Best Mobo say the EVGA Classied SR-2 Intel 5520 (socket 1366) DDR3 mobo (but open to suggestions)

2 x CPUs i7 quad core???

1 (maybe 2) graphics cards (however I have a 295 GTX) should I bother getting a new one?

Not sure wether to bother with liquid cooling...  What are your thoughts?

1000 to 1500W power supply though I have a 1000W already

1 x SSD say about 250 to 500 GB for OS

1x 1TB SATA HDD 10000 RPM or maybe 2x 500GB in RAID 1 or 5

USB3???

Probably use present DVD RW drive along with multi port card reader

Probably the Bigfoot Network Killer 2100 gaming network card

No peripherals required

Help!!!

I bought the HAF-X case one time and had to take it back because I couldn't find cables long enough to reach from the power supply to some of the components. Check that out before you buy it Cavey.

Problem is Gorilla, you guys in USA can get components almost half the cost we can over here, so it's a lot, but not as much as you may think

This is the one I ended up getting and am very happy with it. It runs cool, has plenty of room and has lots of fans.

If you like the coolermaster HAF-X case, but it's too expensive.. try the smaller version here. Comes in about 90 bucks.

Yeah Cavey. I been doing a lot of studying lately, cause I have to build a new system. My build from 5+ years back has finally gotten obsolete and doesn't meet minimum for Black Ops. Newegg has pretty much the best prices around on most stuff. I don't know if that is available to UK shoppers, but I'd be suprised if it isn't.

Here is the system I'm probably going to build, it uses the new 6 core processor and Radeon (as opposed to Nvidia). I already have a bunch of hard drives and a new Win 7 64bit operating system.. so I don't need those.

COOLER MASTER HAF X RC-942-KKN1 Black Steel/ Plastic ATX Full Tower Computer Case $209

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2GHz 6 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor HDT90ZFBGRBOX $229

SAPPHIRE 100290SR Radeon HD 5870 (Cypress XT) 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Eyefinity 6 Edition Video Card $369 ($303 with discount code 'EMCZZYR24' and mail in rebate) Absolute best price on one of these style cards.

CORSAIR Professional Series AX1200 1200W ATX12V v2.31 / EPS12V v2.92 SLI Certified 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply $300

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL $154

Grand total of $1374, which comes in right at 1000 euros

Since your budget is twice that, you could push up to 2 or 3 vid card in crossfire and buy some wicked nice hard drives for a raid array. You could also upgrade the memory to DDR3 2000 up to 16gigs and still be under your budget.

Well let me say you can build one hell of a rig for thatkind of money. Im not really an Intel fan but that is up to you. I would thinka 6 core would be better than 4.  Youshould have enough to get two graphic cards. Liquid cooling is the way to gobut make sure you can get all the blocks for the cpu, north bridge and thevideo cards. Some video cards do not have blocks out for them yet. The largestpower supply the better as it is the back bone for your PC. 2 SSD’s in raid 0 …Iwas getting 171MPS read time with my two. Multi port card reader…NO.. I thinkthat adding that many drives to your system is not worth the extra two secondsjust to plug it in another way. Unless you do a ton of photos.

I have a killa nic and do not use it. I think they are justto help improve your ping. I don’t have a problem with that so there is notmuch benefit from it on my end. Also I don’t think it would fit anyway. The oneI have is for a PCI express 1 slot . They make a few others as well I think. But do some research first and if you need some help hit me up sometime. Xfire, vent, or a pm. If you going to spend that kind of money for a system you might as well get the best of the best as that will last the longest.....

I have built many computers and dollar for dollar I have not run across better designed cases than cooler master.

I built a server last jan with a Tyan Mother Board  2 Intel Xeon E5520 Nehalem 2.26GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 80W Quad-Core Server Processor BX80602E5520

and 32 Gb RAM and SAS drives (15000 RPM) in RAID 5... that thing hauls ass!!!

I bet with the right graphics card it would be an extreame game machine.

There is also hardware to combine a small solid state drive with a conventional drive and it will more than double the speed of the I/O of the conventional drive, sells for around 50.00 US

My take on that.

Look at the new GTX580 that just came out. They're running cooler than GTX480, while being about 20% to 30% more powerful.

some already come with waterblocks...expensive tho. Look for EVGA GTX580 FTW Hydrocopper...way too expensive for my blood.

I don't what computer you own now, but with AMD "Bulldozer" 8 core CPUs coming in March next year, and Intel "SandyBridge" CPUs coming in next year also, It might be a good idea to hold off for a few months...my 2 cents...

For SSDs, I'd rather go single SSD for TRIM support, than a RAID...a 120GB would be more than enough for OS drive...no need to fork 600$ for a 240GB SSD! Go OCZ Vertex 2 Sandforce! 3 year warranty and the best customer support (their forum is really alive)..

HAF-X is nice, you might just need a 8-pin PCI-E extension cable to route the 8-pin ATX cable to the mobo.

Good luck...that a whole lot of money you're planning to spend!

I'm waiting for Bulldozer or Sandy bridge, see how they fare, before I replace my OCed Q9550 @ 3.8GHz / HD5870 combo...

Thx everyone.  I'm very interested in the Sandy Bridge and Bulldozer.  I did read some article about Bulldozer, and AMD have redone the whole underlying arcitecture.  I might be worth waiting.  Already, the next couple of months is also a good time, due to the sales that are put on over the Christmas period.

Yes,

The INTEL SandyBridge and AMD BULLDOZER are looking promising.

The actual Intel sockets (1156 i5 and 1366 i7) will be replaced by 1155pins and 2011 pins...

There is quite a few new things coming out, making the new year an interesting time to upgrade...it's always a good time to grab existing technology at bargain price, but it reduces your upgrade path...

There will be more and more 6-core processors and some 8-cores coming up too, (Intel 6-cores and AMD 8-cores).

Can't wait for the new AMD HD6970 cards (and dual GPU HD6990) to come out in December...to seen if they're beating nVIDIA...

competition is good for the customers!!!!
