Read this pitiful story from MONTREAL • The playgrounds, hallways and cafeterias of Quebec’s largest school board will soon be French-only zones as authorities move to silence other languages, even during recess.  WTF??

http://news.nationalpost.com/2011/11/24/no-recess-from-french-as-montreal-schools-to-scan-playground-chatter/

If we tried to silence Spanish or any other language in the USA, we would be called insensitive, etc., etc......  This is ridiculous!

PigDog Montreal is in Quebec.Cause of that province all our labels on items have to have both languages on them.Don't ask me why they bend over backwards for that province.I also think they receieve more money than any of the other provinces and I think everybody in that province works for the government.Just a crock of shit.

Here's an example. My DAd passed away this year and in sorting out his afffairs I had to cancel his news paper Le Journal du Montreal. Its a french daily or a rag as I like to call it. So I call up customer service and ask to get it canceled and the guy I spoke to was non to coperative so I asked for someone who spoke englais. I was a bit stressed and time were rough as you can imagine. Well this idiot said nobody speaks englais at this newspaper and hung up. I actually had to get hold of the person who delivered the paper to call his boss to get it cancelled because they would not do it in englais. Pisses me off sometimes and its my place of birth and I can get by most of the time in french. There are an excited group of people those who choose to be Quebec hard core.

Quebec has tried several times to separate from Canada. Some Quebecios feel incredibly strong about retaining thier identity and culture to the point they only wish French to be spoken in thier province. Personally it's a national shame.. They are as Canadian as everyone else.

The only good thing about Quebec is the cheap beer and  strip bars. I was posted there for a year, downtown Montreal is quite english in fact, get 20k outside of there and you cannot even go to Timmies and order a coffee.

Ok think about it the reason the murder rate is so high in Detroit and so low in Windsor is because they shoot them on the bridge and in the tunnel. They are so smart in Windsor drop them on the router side :)

It's not all french people tho as a disproportionate amount of Quebecois make up our armed forces so they don't ALL want to leave..

yea I'm embarressed for everybody. The langage police are bad as well.

Folks, you've got to remember that English and French are both the official languages of Canada as per our constitution. The "language police" is just a branch of the  "Office québécois de la langue française" or OQLF (Quebec Board of the French Language). I don't really feel "embarrassed" about it at all. It just one of those archaic institutions we have in Canada that don't really work, but do exist and have a HUGE budget. These are its "missions and powers" (source Wikipedia)

Mission and powers

  • To define and conduct Quebec's policy pertaining to linguistic officialization, terminology and francization of public administration and businesses; (Section 159)
  • To monitor the linguistic situation in Québec and to report thereon to the Minister at least every five years; (Section 160)
  • To see to it that French is the normal and everyday language of work, communication, commerce and business in the civil administration and in enterprises; (Section 161)
  • To assist and inform the civil administration, semipublic agencies, enterprises, associations and natural persons as regards the correction and enrichment of spoken and written French in Québec; (Section 162)
  • To establish the research programmes needed for the application of the Act. (Section 163)
  • To make agreements or take part in joint projects with any person or agency. (Section 164)

Cheers

Joe

Hmmm. habs fan eh? And no I am not a Leafs fan either, Detroit or Philly. And no there is not an uneven amount of french in the CF, those that I know are Canadian not separatist, they are Canadian first. But there is an element that believes that french is more important than everything else, to them I say move to France, if not. Eat your cheese and bleach your white flags, then ask for somebody to come save you. Wine drinking surrender monkeys.

They are French-Canadians Toot, and not all of them are separatists. I like Detroit a lot, but the Habs and the Canucks are my teams, big time.

Not all Quebecios are separatists, only a minority.. They have a strong nationalistic sense.. I only wish they showed it more for Canada than just Quebec. It's an amazing province in Canada and I hope everyone has a chance to visit...I'm a little biast since I grew up across the river in Ottawa, Ontario.

We agree on that one... I never liked Luongo that much and Price is unreliable,  I used to like goalies like Patrick Roy or Hasek on a good day, btw they hated each other lol

I'll type slooooowwwww because I know you can't read fast PigDog.  Ontario and Quebec are 2 different and seperate places in the world.  They are not the same place but they are IN the same country.  It would be like 2 different states...say MICHIGAN and OHIO...Michigan(Wolverines) rule and Ohio (state) SUCKS ASS......  Michigan would be like Ontario and the ass suckers from Ohio  would be like Quebec.
