Are you kidding me?!? Seriously, bro? I'm...speechless. Referencing my area which had all alarm bells going but the biggest hit was temporary power loss and internet loss. Not anywhere near what local officials had anticipated. A local area along the river that floods frequently barely got their feet wet. I also understand, correct me if I am wrong, that the storm was in "bands" and perhaps we missed the worst. There was some tree damage from wind but pretty much nothing from flooding. I think a lot of the tree damage was because of Mondays all day rain. When the winds hit the ground was already soft and wet, not a good thing at all. I also suspect your impression of the storm is tempered by the unusual atmospheric circumstances coming together to make it unique and a weatherman's dream story. But then again better safe than sorry.

I dont quite get you shamu this was a monster storm and just cause you didn't get hit directly its another hyped storm ? First off its mother nature and she will go where ever she wants there is no way a mortal man can say where she will strike so they throw a broad area down to be prepared. By the sounds of it you want everyone to look at this like ehhh it aint going to hit me and when it does the loss of life is even higher. The boy who cried hurricane

I also suspect your impression of the storm is tempered by the unusual atmospheric circumstances coming together to make it unique and a weatherman's dream story. But then again better safe than sorry. In regards to meteorology, this storm is one for our generation. I was following in real-time a weather forum populated by pro and amateur mets and there was deep frustration that some TV weather people were downplaying it as were some politicians (e.g. Mayor Bloomberg). Meanwhile myself and many others were comparing models (http://www.instantweathermaps.com/), looking at many variables within the models, and comparing current conditions to historical analogs and we were seeing what was coming and wondering why the Hell stronger alerts were not issued for several areas. Once it hit, there were on-the-ground reports coming in at the rate of dozens per minute. It was obvious even while it was well off-shore that this was going to be a monster. And yes, there were several bands of heavy rain and high wind. As an aside, I'm now 24 hours with low pressure below 997 millibars. This is unprecedented in my experience. Awards
