Rip time to head for higher ground.

NY officially beat it's all time record set in 1821 for water swells above landfall.Battery park is seeing 11ft+ swells and high tide is still due in.Good thing your about to see the tail end of the storm. It could of got ALOT worse.

Downgraded to a tropical storm. Pretty much just a wet fart here near Philly.

i heard it was suppose to fill up the subways and tunnel systems all throughout new york. and i saw a pic of downtown manhattan, and it was like a ghost town.

now when is that possible? like seriously, even on Y2K hundreds of thousands of people were all waiting for aliens to come down. but a storm makes people come inside and hide.

storm > alien race

but all in all, i hope everyone gets through this safely and securely. dont want anyone to lose their computers & thus can't play bf3!

To say Sandy was a bit over hyped is an understatement.

Blackwidow might take note that I qualified my posts to beach front homes where the owners knew the risk for storm damage upon purchase. If a person chooses to have a beach front home they also know an element of risk comes with it. They made a calculated decision and when the tide turns against them it is simply the cost of doing business. A risk they chose to accept.

Barrier Islands are inherently dangerous and the wise owner makes sure he is well insured. The owners made their choice of their own free will. So if a storm wipes out their house I have very little sympathy.

And for residents who do not heed evacuation orders, which might even account for some of the dead I also have little or no sympathy. In fact I have a touch of dislike for them because when they get in trouble our First Responders have to put their lives at risk trying to save them from their own stupidity.

Just understand my posts were qualified to target toward people who have made a conscious decision to accept the risk with property location or their own lives, not the general population.

But if they do not have insurance and sump pumps well................................... you know what I mean. :no;)

So Shamu those who buy property in the States that are known as tornado alley , should have their houses blown away into Europe as well. Whether you're rich or poor in this world, have property in dangerous land slide areas, or monsoon areas, I'm sure the majority have worked hard to own them, and no-one deserves to have their property destroyed, or anyone wishing it.

Yes Blackwidow, I also see these comments as insensitive.

Cavey;

You can stretch and manipulate my comments as you wish to suit your fancy much like a politician. But don't imply I am talking about monsoons, tornado alley or landslides when I made no such reference.

And I also certainly did not wish it upon them in any post I made as you seem to imply in your last sentence.

I qualified my posts to specific areas and stand by what I said, For beach front homes the buyer knowingly assumes a much higher amount of risk upon purchase. To me when you accept that SPECIFIC risk you are less deserving of sympathy when something totally possible happens. The Barrier Islands are an entity entirely to themselves. Their descriptive name alone provides a warning.

Try not to put words in my mouth for me, I can usually do that well enough myself. You might also note I admitted to being insensitive so what is your point without altering the context of my posts?

All current watches and warnings for the Eastern half of the USA. This is one for the record books: Tropical storm watches and blizzard warnings on the same map, and all from the same system.

I hope all people's homes including those with beach houses who have worked hard to own them, all the best wishes and safety. Hopefully no-one gets hurt, and there homes don't get blown over to Europe.

Well...at home I got the gennie up and the family got 2 fridges, a bunch of lights and the tv with the tivo and 1500 hrs of pre recorded stuff....

On the work front it seems I am the only fuel terminal in the state of NJ with both fuel (oil and diesel) and power to pump it. I only wish I had laid in more....

I have gotten calls from everyone from the guy down the street and his generator to hospitals and even the governers office and the mayors office in NYC looking for fuel. The terminals and refineries in NJ will not have product for at least 3 to 4 days....

The Colonial Pipeline lost power and that is just terrible for the northest PAD....there are going to be severe fuel shortages in the next 10 days....

PSE&G has made the Colonial pipieline the top priority for power restoration and as I write this a generator from North Carolina is being escorted up the NJ Turnpike by the state police to try and get the pipieline going....I must have sold 15k gallons today and am down to the last 39k. I will be reserving what I have for emergency deliveries only....ie: hospitals and medical facilities......everyone else has got to wait....this is bad....
