i agree with cobra, it really sounds like a bad drive. hxtr made a suggestion that was good. they make programs (disks) that you can boot on and it will setup a virtual windows enviroment running in ram only and you may be able to save any important data with it. ultimate boot or mri comes to mind. you may at least be able to save the data. hope you can find a solution soon

sounds if HDD dropped out

 

Dimension 4550 if still stock MB CHECK bios version A08 is the last one and other drivers

 

if still stock Deskstar HDD thers a firmware update for HDD

 

best use acronis true image and take an image of HDD to store data

 

or can be a failed data cable

 

question does the gaming box see the HDD

Viper.. that link to my dropbox with the multiboot image has Acronis on it also but if the other drive dead then imaging is not an option. Did you download that yet viper? Edited by hxtr

Viper...before you get all crazy, I can mail you an Acronis boot disk and you can clone the drive...then just remove it, replace with a new one and put the data back....you'll never know you missed anything....I just did this last week on one of the machines here in my office.

ahhh...lol....others have offered the acronis solution...i shoul;d have read all the way through

i have a cd image with acronis and windows XP bartpe. Very good tools to have. It has a few other apps like a password reset. I love my multiboot disk.

whoa a nasty virsus has corruptted the MBR of HDD

 

viper the previous question asked, does the dell HDD if hooked to your game box (only dell HDD on game box, seen and works right? F8 to boot safe mode)

 

if not don't mess with dell HDD anymore if needing the data off of it. needs to taken to data recovery $ervice, not cheap

With the help of RustyrRIfle & CobraBites this afternoon we got the hard drive outta the old machine and put it in my gaming computer .found it to still be good and the downloaded it to my gaming computer . now i still have my 57 GB of pictures and 13 GB of music a total over 100 GB . the pics and music i'll put on disc and the make my wife happy and download it all to a new computer .as i write this i am listing to my music :smoke: . THANK YOU ALL MUCH APPRECIATED . :thumbup: thought i'd post picture of the transfusion :hrhr: :hrhr: that's the old 10 year old hard drive hanging outta my computer :w00t: . Edited by vipersniper

no worries bro thats what i do for living. all my work is computer related. next time dont wait til its time to put the pc in a museum :D as cobra and i talked its most likely the motherboard may it rest in pieces :smoke:

lol wish i got here sooner... would have said it wasnt the hdd lol... if its doing that it would be a bad connection either in the mobo or the cable. had that happen to me before with on of my wifes computers... ended up scrapping it for parts and buying a new one
