A post to provide more information about the Gurkhas who serve in the British Army, following today's brief

discussion in the COD5 DM server.  We have a special interest in and affection for these brave warriors as

they are stationed here when not overseas on operations and our area has a large Nepalese community.

The Gurkha's traditional weapon is a long curved knife called a "kukri" and you'll see this in use (though not

on an enemy!) in the short Army video I am embedding.

"Bravest of the brave, most generous of the generous, never had a country more faithful friends than you”

Sir Ralph Turner MC, 3rd Queen Alexandra's Own Gurkha Rifles, 1931

I enjoy Nepalese foods.  These are called "Momo" and are little dumplings, a little like ravioli and eaten with a spicy dip:

Fine soldiers and long may they serve the British Army, it's just a shame that whichever government we have don't look after them properly.

When I was a kid I remember my late uncle telling me stories about his combat experiences in Korea. One of his favorite stories was when he and his unit were on a high ridge facing down several hundred Chinese soldiers who were attempting to overrun their position. He recalled that even though they had the high ground, the Chinese snipers were laying down heavy fire and it was very difficult to raise your head high enough to get a shot off at the advancing enemy. The Gurkha solders were standing out in the open on the edge of the ridge, screaming like mad men and waiving their knives in the air, and the Chinese snipers couldn't seem to hit them. Every time the Chinese would begin to advance up the hill the Gurkha men would run down to kill them. Eventually air support drove back the Chinese, but my uncle always said that had it not been for the bravery of the Gurkhas, the hill would have been lost long before air support had arrived.
