my son screwwed up his laptop there is a missing or damaged command/ program

it is the  file: \boot\ memtest.exe command

status: 0xc000000f

it turns out nothing will run with out this command i cant even get the system recovery or the factory restore to start.

put a win 7 disc in it and got the repair program to run but it just spun tires i dont think it found the hard drive,

it is not showing during the partition scan either,

if i do a in repair search i can find it all i just cant access it

went thier web site and found a lot of stuff but the options they say to use dont show up on my options screen.

is there a way to force a factory repair?

soo wtf do i do?

If it's only the exe file that is missing or corrupt, me personally, I'd try pulling the drive and hooking it up as a secondary in another pc then try to find the file on line and copy over to hard drive assuming the pc sees it.

$54.95 for a new hard drive on ebay....

I may be able to find a cheaper one too around here.

I would not waist too much time on trying to fix the error.

If you want to drive it up here to NH and I could fix it for you or at least tell you whats wrong with it. Send me a PM if you are interested. No charge for the diagnostic or repair. I do not think I have a hard drive if that is it. I am here if you need help.

Get a new hard drive. Use your win 7 disc to reinstall not repair. Use your code on the back of the laptop to make it official. if you got files/pics they are lost unless you can find someone to get them back, the more times you try to use the drive the more you lose.

You dont need anything but a win 7 disc as Toshiba most likely installs a bunch of stuff you dont want anyway.

Always run SFC for problems like this. It's easiest to run from within windows. Open a command prompt and type is sfc /scanow, hit ENTER. SFC will fix any problems with the operating system files.

If you can't get to windows, put in your windows disk, boot to it and choose REPAIR from the options. When you get to the command prompt, type in:

sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows

Once you get windows up, open windows explorer, right click on your C: drive>PROPERTIES>TOOLS>CHECK NOW. It will ask if you want to schedule a disk check on reboot, say YES. Reboot the computer and let it run.

Often, missing files are a sign of a failing hard drive , malware or viruses. You should run full virus and malware scans. If those are clean, then determine which brand of hard drive you have and download their diagnostic tool. Run a FULL CHECK of the hard drive and then you'll know if you actually have a hard drive problem.

does the laptop have a cd/dvd drive? what year is it?  if it has dvd drive turn it on hit f8 or f2 what ever it is on your machine. then make sure that it is set to boot from dvd drive 1st not hard drive. then you can use to reinstall windows. if you dont have dvd drive.  you can also use  your other puter to create a boot from usb flash drive yes it works like a start up disk on usb then. make sure you have usb 1st boot, dvd 2nd boot set in bois.  im sure you can find many videos on this topic on youtube on how to boot from usb and so on. cause if you already have a windows 7 disk and cd key all you have to do is get your bois to boot from cd or flash to get it into recovery.  other ways is going into dos and typing in the commands for recovery

download this and burn to a DVD or CD. It is an ISO so it is a disk image. Boot and you can go into barPE which is windows XP and you can use other programs to test drive.

I can give you more info how to run later... it is a disk image... so it BOOTS. No hard drive needed.
