Thank You HellRasier!

Something I picked up in teamspeak thought everyone playing bf4 should try: In console  change  "RenderDevice.RenderAheadLimit  Int32" retype in like this "RenderDevice.RenderAheadLimit  2"

After I set "RenderDevice.RenderAheadLimit  2" to the value "2", I gained about 40-50 FPS went from all low settings to most all now at Ultra settings....FUCKING FANTASTICK

Turns out the best way is to just and this to your bf4 userconfig file....come to team speak if you need further assist

cheers!

how did it work for you?

Personally, I am greatly hesitant to mess around with settings unless I have to.

What you've done may work well for those with powerful PCs with powerful GPUs

but less well for those of us with 32-bit systems, 4GB RAM and 1GB graphics cards.

If all it does is show more blood when b****y snipers pick us off at spawn, it doesn't

promise a great enhancement.

I don't know how this will affect Mantle performance on AMD cards, but in Direct3D on both AMD and nVidia card, the prerender frames setting helps make your framerate smoother - at the cost of adding a delay between your actions and on-screen result. If you're already getting a low framerate this settings, which is 3 by default on both AMD and nvidia cards, can inject "mouse lag" into your game - you move your mouse and a notable fraction of a second later, your view moves. Deus EX:HR suffered from this quite badly, as did the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games. And System Shock 2. And, really, quite a lot of other direct3D titles.

As a result, I would recommend setting this setting to 1 in your driver settings in Windows so it's always 1 for every game.

52ecc8dd85909_maxprerenderframes.png

This would overwrite any setting BF4 uses internally and is easy to set back if you don't like the result.

Note that pre-rendering is done by the CPU which prepares frames for the GPU to go render. So, lowering this will reduce your CPU load a little. Considering the amount of CPU-use by BF4, you could get a framerate boost by setting this to 1 (default in BF4 is 3 I believe) in addition to ridding the world of a little input lag. It certainly won't give you anywhere near 40-50 fps more on an nvidia card though. If I set max.prerender to 3, I lose maybe 5 fps? That's it. If you're getting 40 more frames out of it you have to wonder what else is wrong there... and then send a ticking letter to DICE for coding that badly :)

Oh, before I forget, there's a famous quote on the internet.

-- "No, this makes games run smoother! You need to leave it on 3 or even make it 6!"

Some people who read this.

If you hear or read the above quote, ignore it. Pre-rendering technically could improve smoothness. It does, in fact. Instead of going from 30 fps to 78 and back to 45 and up to 84 again, it'll be more stable around the average (of 60 in my example).

But the game will FEEL sluggish especially when the frame rate goes down, which means you won't be able to play very well. You'll get a smoother experience of death :)

So, turns out this does actually bring 40-50 fps boost on a few machines - notably those with AMD chips and videoboards... wow.

I have messed with that setting quite a bit and never seen the results that was experienced changing it through the console.

I do agree , what ever you set your  config to, should match you video settings! or  set to "application controlled"

Thanks for the info!

I have an older card, an Nvidia 560Ti 1GB card..... I normally play on Medium settings with about 80FPS because I have the game and windows on an SSD. Curious if this makes a difference or would allow me to play on high?

Cheers!

Setting 2 worked for me, running a geforce660. seemed to give me a 30-40 FPS boost.

still lags the same on ultra though, & never lagged on high before anyway, so dunno if I gained anything really
