The definitive guide to resinstalling COD2, COD4 and COD5

So you started reading this thinking I wrote it such a guide? Nope, I'm still looking for it.

 

Labob filled me in on COD2, but, is there something, somewhere, that tells you all you need to know about loading these games on a new system, including:

 

- Are there any specific issues one should be aware of in reinstalling each of these games on a Windows 8.1 system?

 

- How do I copy/transfer my game history for each of these games, or, must I start over with each of them?

 

- Where do I find all of the game updates; is there a single update for any/each of them that includes all the previous updates?

 

- Can I copy all of my maps over so I don't have to download them all over again; where are they for each game?

 

- What else should I know?

 

Bottom line: has anyone written this manual? If not, could someone?

I'll tell you what.. if someone writes such a guide I will make sure that it ends up somewhere prominent on the website.. we will call it the 'holy book' of XI. However.. it must, absolutely must, contain screenshots! because there are idiots here who seem to only respond to them. Like screenshots with big red circles where to click and stuff!!

YES MAKE SURE THERE IS NO USER ACCOUNT OR YOU ARE INSTALLING UNDER THE ADMIN ACCOUNT AND WATCH THE PATH IT IS BEING INSTALLED UNDER

YOU SHOULD ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR MAIN FOLDER

Well all the needed files and you can download them from our site without all that crappy ad shit . You simply to to the download section select your game and get what you need. For DOD5 I'm told teh ultimate patch is working great these days so I would use that one. Maps player profile and all your mods are in one place . 

 

 

Now thats windows 7. I think XP is the same. Where they go in Windows 8 Not sure I have not had time to finish loading everything on my copy of 8. A guess would be Users\Labob\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty - World at War Somebody please correct me if thats wrong. Either way those are everything you need to load to have everything the same as it was on your old computer setup,

There are 7 WaW patches that appear to take the game progressively to version 1.7 but I don't see an "ultimate patch" for that game. Likewise, COD4 has seven patches to take it to 1.7.

Could be wrong on some games but the only patch needed should be the version we run on said server

 

example COD2 we run version 1.3 so you would not need version 1.2

Windows 7 Steam

 

1) Download and Install the game through Steam.

 

2) Download and Install DirectX 9.0c (Right Click and Run as administrator). If needed

 

3) Locate you Steam folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam), select Steam.exe > Right Click > Properties > Privilege Level put the check on "Run this program as an administrator" . Click Apply

 

4) Locate the Call of Duty 2 folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty 2), select CoD2MP_s.exe > Right Click > Properties > Compatibility and set compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3 . In privilege Level put the check on "Run this program as an administrator". Do the same for CoD2SP_s.exe and click Apply.

 

Install and update  PunkBuster

Perhaps we try an open style wiki, rather than a single guide we have something like this: http://www.xtremeidiots.com/page/xi-bible.html

 

I added loaders guide in to see how it would work.. it would work like a wiki in that everyone can edit everything (changes need approval). The more people that get involved the more useful stuff we have on there. It would be in a single place and we can have a link on the top bar rather than the content being in multiple forums.

 

Not sure on what 'fields' the database would need other than title and instructions so open to input on that.

Thank you Loader for your guide to reinstalling COD2 on a Windows 8.1 machine. Worked perfectly (I did not install DirectX9; the game runs fine with DX11.) Only thing I'm missing is the key to run in the game; can't remember what that was. Otherwise, up and running on a new Alienware with COD2, 4 and 5 and all God's children are happy.
