Renaming of L86A2, RPK-74 and L96A1 in BF4.

As most people ive talked to have noticed, they changed the L96A1 and RPK-74 weapons by changing their names to L115 and RPK respectively.

 

I would like to clarify the reasons based on information I have found. I originally thought that they only changed the names and it may be due to copyright. I now realise that they did not only change the names but they are actually different weapons.

 

The RPK-74 fires the same round as an AK74, it is now an RPK as this fires the same round as an AK47 and this translates to the game as well. The RPK has been buffed due to this. The same with the L96A1, they did actually change it to the L115A1 which fires a larger round and has a longer range. They did also nerf the L96 (L115) however by changing the magazine size. I believe that they changed the name and calibur to fit the nerf they did to the magazine size (went from 10 +1 to 5+1). 

 

Statistics of L96A1 and L115A1 REAL weapons (REPEAT: This is NOT in-game stats): 

 

Sniper Rifle L96

Calibre: 7.62mm

Weight: 6.5kg

Length: (adjustable) 1124-1194mm

Muzzle velocity: 838m/s

Feed: 10-round box

Effective range: 900m, harassing fire 1100m

Long Range Rifle L115A1

Calibre: 8.59mm

Weight: 6.8kg

Length: 1300mm

Muzzle velocity: 936m/s

Feed: 5-round box

Effective range: 1100m plus

You are right, but the stats were allready changed in the previous patch. In this patch they only changed the names to suit their real life versions. (Sort of)

yeah, I just mean that they changed them and the name changes were legitimate changes rather than just "We don't have the licensing"

It was likely both. They also didnt want to make it obvious that it was simply a name change. Remember that licensing would be 'per copy' of the game. Same reason why MS dumped bluray and dvd support. They would have to pay royalties for every Windows copy they shipped (for retail) and license sold.
