 windows 7 any ideas on a good program to fix this problem. my wife killed it , and she never backed her pics of the kids

Just attach the drive via a sled or internal bay to another computer and copy the data off.

If hooking it up on another system is "NOT" an option via SATA connections as Yacc suggested... then get yourself something like this so you can hook it up via USB and copy the data off "IF" the drive is still good. Surgery could be necessary to replaces heads if not.  If the system see it and you can access the file system.. the you can copy the data off to another drive. Let me know if you need any help.

I like that connection hxt . Iv got a few old drives kicking around with all sorts of shit on them . Can't be bothered putting them on PC so this might be the answer

Yep... works great for that. Makes it easy to Image a drive as well. Take your OS Drive when it is perfect and use something like http://clonezilla.org/ to image the system to a spare drive for that just in case moment. :)

if you still have your windows 7 disc you can boot from it and select repair then type fixmbr in the command prompt box.
