Surgery could be necessary to replaces heads if not. If the system see it and you can access the file system.. the you can copy the data off to another drive. Makes it easy to Image a drive as well. Take your OS Drive when it is perfect and use something like http://clonezilla.org/ to image the system to a spare drive for that just in case moment.
