Does anybody know what I can do to fix my latest issue..Running Ms Window Vista Home Edition sp2..AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual core processor 3800+..2.0GB  Ram..bought a geforce gtx nvidia480 video card last week..Everything was going smooth sailor till yesterday..got into cod5 and it just shut down on me like some 1 cut my power off..Just bought a 750 watt power supply..so dont think is that..as the card alone needs 600 watts...talk with my nephew about it and he says he had a customer come in with somewhat the same problem..he is saying to me that is Vista not been comparable with the card..but I think it could be something else..as the card is suppose to be ok with vista and xp..

Can any 1 help me..as now is shutting down cod4..when it wasn't..maybe turn down settings on card..please any help is appreciated..

Hey Chile.  Get Windows 7.  LOL just messin ya.

Do you have a utility that can monitor CPU and GPU temperatures?  If you have an overheating problem, the system will shut down to protect itself.  Try removing the case side panel and play and see if extra ventilation helps.

try reinstalling dx9. your card uses dx11 so doing a upgrade like this might need for you to reinstall dx9 since cod requires it.

Chile,

With a  GTX480 your TOTAL system might draw 500 watts from the wall...it doesn't draw 600 Watts from the card itself...you can be sure of that...

vista should be fine with the card...

what brand/model is your PSU?

Is it a multirail design? It might be that the PSU cables  are hooked up to the same internal rail...you might want to try another PCI-E power connector from the PSU...

Also,  like others mentioned, it could also be heat...the trick of the "open case" + household fan pointing in it might tell you that if the computer now doesn't crash anymore it means your case had bad airflow, or lack of fans...

download MSI afterburner, enable in-game display (OSD) choose temperatures and FPS...so you'll get in the game, you'll be able to monitor your temperatures...and if you see the 3D clocks dropping (thermal throttling), you'll see if the card is trying to "save itself"

Is the computer shutting down only in 3D applications? If it does, it narrows it down to HEAT or POWER issue...

Install EVGA precision or MSI afterberner and either turn up the fan manually or set a custom fan profile. The stock bios "auto" setting will cause the card to overheat.Make sure that the power connections going to the card are on different 12volt rails as the card requires 42 amps on the 12volt rail.

A 2.0Ghz dual core will bottleneck that card.

Wish there was a quick answer, but it's a tough one to resolve Chile. There's even an Nvidia 400/500 Series Lockup Club: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=187401

We now seem to be at a point in graphics technology where you pretty much need to buy a new system with the card installed, when you wish to upgrade graphics.

UnChileno - Vista and Video cards..

Does anybody know what I can do to fix my latest issue..

Yes, buy a Mac, even if you run Windoze or Linux on it, you'll have some of the most solid reference hardware out there.  If you choose to run the native OS you'll have an even better experience!
