Here is what I have come up with so far...I am hoping some of our puter experts will chime in if they see any conflicts or areas where I might improve performance or save some money...I'm definitely going with the HAF-X, ASUS Motherboard (but open to board model change), and 2600K...Everything else is subject to change if it will increase performance and/or save some money...SmileSmile

Bart, you can probably get the Win7 64bit OEM Home premium version (under $100 Cnd here) and save some cash, unless you need to get Win 7 PRO. I have also seen better deals on Hard Drives, have you tried Seagate?  Good luck in any event, hope to see you back soon!

and i'm sure an "old hand" like you knows to always get the "water" proof keyboard and screen.

they may cost a little more in the beginning but they save you tons in the long run:)!

Blackbart, with that case and those parts, don't go air cooled with that noctua NH-D14.  Get a closed circuit liquid cooler.  I have the haf-x case, and choose the corsair H70.  It will cool your CPU much better, and it's only a little more expensive.  However you could save yourself money by getting Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.  To be honest, unless you are joining a domain or looking at RAID 5 etc, there is no benefits in getting Pro edition, and you will save yourself more than enough to get that liquid cooling.

Honestly, that is sound advise!!!

I like what Cavey suggest Bart and love your proposed system.

Win7 home is fine. I dont use any of the features in my ultimate. I turn off all  the pretty stuff. Looks plain as jane and saves me lots of memory along with all else I turn off. It is boot speed I want and I use just over 500mb on a clean boot. Then again I have zero antivirus/firewall/defender or spyware protection or any other useless software. Nothing runs in my trey but the clock, volume, wifi and the show desktop thing I am going to turn off.

I do not suggest you try most of this at home or work.

crap i just got a popup again. lol hahahahhaaha

Good luck on that machine Black Bart. For some reason people are missing you in the servers. :)

Hmmm tbh you don't really need raid.  I have a simlar HDD setup with an OCZ 250GB SSD for OS, and 1TB mechanical drive for data.  I then have a 1TB external usb drive for a minor of the data drive.  That why I'm sound should the beast go wrong.

So I stick by my advise.

Yes, I would prefer a 6950 2Gb.

I always like to use the link below. There I selected the 6850 to the left and the 6950 on the right. The black numbers shows the better card. Use this link and play arround with some other cards.

I hope that helps buddy.

Great case, mobo, and SSD (I have the same parts)! You could save $100 and get an i5 2500k. It has 2Mb less cache and no multithreading, but will you ever do anything that requires it? The 2500k overclocks like a champ (I'm at 4.5Ghz on air using a Cooler Master V6GT with idle temps at 26°C and never over 39°C under load). A buddy of mine has both chips in different rigs, and says that he regrets shelling out for the i7 seeing as the i5 is its equivalent for gaming and is its equal for overclocking.
