Well, I thoroughly pissed of a women in my local supermarket yesterday evening. She had a kid, maybe 2-3 years old on a leash. The kid was not cooperating and was sitting on the floor protesting any further movement.

Now understand I simply do not like kids on leashes, to me it is exceptionally poor parenting.

As moved past her I casually asked her what type breed of dog the kid was. She exploded! Telling me quite loudly to "FCK**** mind your own God Damn business!" Her words exactly.

I simply casually continued on my way to check out with a smile of self satisfaction on my face. I sit here chuckling to myself as I type. This will be a story for me to relate to my kids.........they will be proud of me.

A highlight of my day, perhaps on my top ten list of things I have done.

Well..I am sorry , BUT, Bad judgment on your part bud..I am pretty sure if it was the Father..you would NOT ask such dumb question then..As the Father might it had a different approach than the mother..I know I would..

Like LOM said..NOT all kids are perfect..What if this kid had some sort of Illness that makes the mother leash him..Attention Deficit Disorder comes to mind..Maybe even Deaf..Who knows man..Sometimes some things are BEST to keep to your self..

My wife is going to Dallas next week and this is one of the things we talked about..Leashing the kids while she is over site seeing..Or roaming the malls..I am sorry but my KIDS are everything to me and if something would happen to them..She knows best not to come back..We NEVER leash them here as we think our parenting is good enough up to now to trust them..But..Do I trust others out there..Hell No!!!

My point of even responding to the original post had less to do with the leash and more to do with what he said to the mom, and feeling so proud of what he did, even equating it to one of the best things he's ever done in his life. Most of us would never consider leashing our kids, but some parents are left with no choice. Hell she may have been a single mom, who fucking knows. To me this all says less about what the mom did, and speaks volumes about the mentality of a person with the balls to humiliate a young mother in a public place. Sorry Shamu, but regardless of how proud you felt of yourself, that was a pretty fucked up thing to do.

All of us who are parents do the absolute best that we can because there is no owners manual that comes with kids. Doing something like this then bragging about it to friends is about the same as beating up a little kid on the playground then bragging to your buddies about it. Who is the better parent, the one who worries about their childs safety by using a leash, or the one who acts like a bully then brags to their kids about it?

I can certainly recognize that there are, as with everything, exceptions perhaps with special needs children. However if you were to generalize the majority of parents are only treating their kids like a pet as opposed to a child to whom it is your responsibility to educate in manners and behavior. It's their crutch for an easy way out.

As for if I would have said anything were it a man? You obviously do not know me because I most certainly would. Also understand this kid was sitting in protest and the mother was dragging him on the floor. IMHO borderline child abuse.

I have in my past intervened with a man beating his child. I might add a man much more physically endowed than I. To the credit of other bystanders once I did something I received much mutual support from what had previously been on lookers. The police were called, the man arrested but the issue was settled out of court.

For normal kids I will never condone the use of a leash............. too many better options like grocery carts, strollers, back packs and heaven forbid maybe holding their hand. AN act of love often used too infrequently.

Well then my apologies Shamu, you are indeed talented knowing for certain that the child was "normal" and seeing that there was a need for some public humiliation to set the mother straight.

Next time the opportunity comes up, you might consider video taping it for an upload to Youtube. I'm sure your video would have been just as popular as the one where the guy decided to try and humiliate the young woman at the Chick-Fil-A drive through because the company owner didn't agree with gay marriage.

It's what we've come to now that dads can no longer give a misbehaving kid the licking they need and deserve. In my day, if you misbehaved, any adult was liable to give you a smackdown and when you got home, your father wouldn't go looking for whoever assaulted you, he's beat the hell out of you for causing someone else to have to trouble themselves to beat the hell out of you.

My son was quite rambunctious, he had my hand holding the back of his neck a few times at a young age in public. If i would have put him on leash for my own peace of mind, i dont think i would take offense at a passerbys "light hearted" comment, of which i think this probably was. If you see fit to leash a child in public for your own reasons,  warranted or lazy matters not, thats great. I know if shamu would have said something like that to me, i would have laughed and responded with some sort of equally amusing and smart assed remark. Something about if the child looks like me, must be some mutt of some kind...or something to that effect. My grandson is also quite rambunctious, and he is 2 1/2. When me and his Ganna take him out, it requires alot of attention, mostly on my part, hence the firm grip on his hand and constant redirection of his attention. Most people have to have some idea of what other people perceptions might be "prioir" to doing whatever they do, so they should be "somewhat' prepared for something like that. I would if i put my son or grandson on a leash, because i know how i react when i see it.......just syain, thats all....

Regardless of the child's condition dragging a protesting child on the floor was inappropriate under any circumstance.

I have no regrets for my action. My one possible regret is that I did not stand by to see if the child's treatment improved. Maybe I should have offered her a shopping cart. Like she probably should have used in the first place.

this leash goes on there wrist and if you have a kid that is overcurious and dashes and they have a history of it and you love them then you put this cord on there wrist so that when there in az public space with hundreds of people  they dont run and get lost forever then adducted and killed.the end.not as if its a fucken dog leash around there necks...

its embarasing for that parent to do it but its usually a necessity .

there always a better way to ask a question without outrite insulting someone like they are treating there kids like animals then for a bunch of you tyo say wow what an evil incompetent parent .lests end this  one.its pointless unless you have kids with major issues and can relate in some fashion.....

This young child let go of his mums hand in a crowded shopping centre/mall, if he had been on a leash (we don't even call them leashes, over here it's reigns) the  murder of this poor young boy would probably never have happened, one of the UK's most notorious and horrific murders, not blaming the boys mother at all but if she had a leash/reigns around her wrist, he wouldn't have been able to wander off, lots of young children over here are made to wear reigns when out with parents, we do not have any hang ups about it at all over here, i cannot see what the problem is at all.

Thats pretty funny, nice work. Putting your kid on a leash has to be degrading to the child.

I have used corporal punishment on my youngest simply because he was the most stubborn little boy I ever knew. If he wanted to do something he would simply go and do it and spanking didn't help. I was consistent but he wasn't willing to bend. To me I felt like I was abusing him but I didn't know what else to do. When we went out one of us had to hold his hand or something all the time till he got older. My two older kids were not the type to cause trouble and were much more submissive. Never had any problems with them. My point is every child is different and yes some parents don't get it. I was one of those parents that felt like I had no clue. I still loved my kids but I didn't know how to get the message through in a humane manner so I did what I felt was the only choice. Yes there are those who should not have kids but then again thats not my decision. I have a cousin that he had 6 kids and because they all live lives he fells is how he taught them and I raised my kids right with his and my two youngest have had their problems. People be careful of the comments you make as time is the great equalizer and even the best parents make some blunders and HUGE blunders at that. Raising kids is a crap shoot. Some kids turn out great others in the same house turn out to do horrendous things. I consider myself a lucky man that at the end of the day my kids love me and I love them! No mass murderers yet!

You can leash your kids and it's ok, but if I spank mine it's child abuse....

I AGREE WITH THIS.  MENTAL ABUSE IN THE LONG RUN.
