Ping tests show a figure of 37ms for me locally but I regularly hit 150-160ms on the XI servers - as has been said, it is a matter of distance so you'll have to rely on that superior skill against players who benefit from a lower figure! Set cl_maxpackets and com_maxfps to this number e.g. seta cl_maxpackets "55" seta com_maxfps "55" This optimizes your communication settings. more infos: http://bashandslash.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=176&Itemid=1 Awards

Do you use a router? Mine add 40ms to my ping. Look at the newer gaming routers if needed. Stay away from "supplied" networking programs. Sierra wireless program adds 100 ms to my ping. Had to buy a cradlepoint router to avoid this hit. (some routers can bypass proprietory software. Seirra or Sprint routes your signal through their towers and not neccessarily the quickest way). Use asshort of a cat5 cable as you can. Wont help much but every sec counts. Get a trace route program, learn to read it and adjust as needed. Use a good firewall that allows a gaming config. This shuts down all traffic except the gaming ports you need. Kinda hard to configure but well worth the effort. Good for about 15 ms on my system. Move to Chicago. Expensive but the best way to reduce you ping. When I first started playing on the site, my ping was around 190-200. I now connect at about 90-110 using Sprint wireles. My biggest hit is from Sherman Texas to Dallas. It's all wireless untill my signal hits Dallas then it goes wired. 20ms from Dallas to Chicago, 20 thru my system and 60 from my house to the tower and to Dallas. Iwould go DSL but its not offered in my area. Anyway sorry for the long post but I hope it helps.
