What you'll discover on page 19 is a quick answer to your question. They stated maximum 5th trailer weight is 13,700 pounds! I'm sure the math is correct. I use to have 1999 version of what you have. Mine couldn't do it. You won't even have the luxury of bringing any belongings with you! Hopes this helps? Edited June 2, 2015 by MrBubbles

The transmission is another story all together. I pulled a 30 ft 10,000 lb trailer with my gas powered 2005 Expedition that has the same engine as a gas F250, but after doing that for a summer the tranny went out. I've heard from many people that Ford transmissions from the early to late 2000's frequently go out towing RV's. If you try it, I would strongly suggest getting the tranny beefed up and serviced, and maybe adding an oil cooler to it. By the way, my tranny cost over $5,000 to replace through Ford, and it wasn't really any cheaper to fix anywhere else. So I went with Ford to get the 3 year warranty on their work. Get the trans cooler or stay home and camp in your RV in your driveway. Because your at the towing limit of that truck the brakes will be working hard to stop that rig and the 5th wheel has a braking system . . .use it. Its not a question of IF you WANT to spend the money on the brake controller you HAVE TO spend the money on that brake controller . . I mean come on if your watching your budget that closely you cant afford the trip. Its important to consider the other families on the road enjoying their summer vacation. My GF's Dad regularly hauls heavy loads with his and has not had any problems with the tranny. He is a foreman for a huge constuction company in Jersey. Just my 2 cents and not trying to start a dodge vrs ford wars but I very much so trust the mans opinion.

I'm Ford man and driven Fords all my life and still think the Ford F-series pickups are the best overall trucks but the Cummins diesel engine is tough as nails and gets good mileage. If you could buy a new F-series pick-up with a Cummins diesel engine in it you might not ever need to buy another truck in your lifetime. We all dream of things we cant have. hxtr 1 Awards
