Hello friends, I have an issue with my new rig where when I try to install Windows 7. It gets to where it's "expanding files" and then freezes at some point. I even tried taking the SSD out of my new rig and hooking it up to my old rig, then copy and pasted Windows 7 from a thumb drive to the SSD and reinstalling into new rig. No luck :wallbash: I tried a few things I read in some forums like removing one stick of ram, re-configuring the SATA cables and installing from thumb drive. I'm almost ready to pay a professional to figure it out cuz I've had it! Any advice on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Peace and love :yes

I had same problem do this when the welcome screen comes up on windows setup press shift f10, wich will display a command prompt, now type diskpart and press enter, type list disk and press enter, hopefully you see your ssd in list, you sould see a number identifying it now. type select disk x .where x is the number identifying your ssd. type clean and press enter.this will write a blank MBR ,you will lose any data on ssd if you had any. now install will work hope this helped cheers mate:)

I would leave the data drives offline until the install completes you could assign drive letters / paths later...most ssd manufacturers have software to format the disk, plus windows should be able to format it on the install as long as it is recognized as a drive in bios......is it  a m2 ssd or a 2.5 ssd on normal sata 3 cables ?

PS:

Some new bios settings like boot order for usb drives and sata type ide / achi may need to be adjusted in the bios . also most new boards reserve the last one or 2 sata spots for the new m2 ssd drives...aka one generic example would be .....m2 ssd drive installed ...sata ports 5 and 6 are disabled... Most of the time but not all of the time these sata ports could be a different color or set aside from the rest to designate them

samsung has great cloning software... i believe its called samsung magician

So if the old rig works you may be able to clone windows 7 in its current state to the new samsung ssd. You would have to install the ssd in the old rig clone to it and then move the cloned ssd to the new rig

Then you can boot to the new cloned ssd  hopefully all the new drivers install on boot up

keep your fingers crossed ..after all it is broken Windows ;-)

that would be the best you could do wihtout doing a complete install of windows, it tons of updates,  and all of the software you have

Again many thanks to you all for your consideration. I was able to get my machine to swallow Windows 7 by removing one stick of RAM. Oddly, the first stick removal did not work at all. I switched sticks of RAM and tried it again with the opposite stick in the same socket, and bingo. Looking into system profile after re-installing the other stick of RAM, I have the full 16gigs. YAY!

Thanks again ppls :respect:
