Shit shit shit...

I was doing some internet searching looking for home heating repair companies in the area. One place, a reputable one, on the main page had text/link inserts that would take you to all kinds of bad sites. Inserts like 'lesbian porn' or stuff about meds. The usual. It seemed to be the only page/website that had it. On firefox no less.

Paranoid that I am when it comes to internet safety I shut all programs down and am now running every av/mallware program I have. Since I was working on my neighbors computer the last couple days to clean things it worried me. However her computer was never on the network (before cleaning) at the same time as mine. I also never used a usb thumb drive. Just burned cd's. There is a usb encloure on the network but it also was password protected. I will be scanning that anyways.

First av scan and first mallware scan didnt find anything on the pc. Now running a different mallware program. Needless to say I wont be going back to that website again. Maybe they got hit with something.

Ugh.

Ad-Block will save you from most of the crap.Last bug I got was a browser redirect bug.Easily fixed just backup your bookmarks and delete everything firefox related.Folders, files and registry keys and empty your temp folders. Then reinstall firefox from a fresh installer and import your bookmarks.

Firefox seems to be a primary target for bugs lately.Used to be the best secure browser but lately it's not looking so good.Still think Firefox has some sort of memory leak. When I start it up it will use 150-200mb and if left to sit on the same page memory usage will climb over 500mb within 10-15 minutes.Even sitting here typing mine is going up from 200mb up to 281mb ok 284.2mb errrrr 291mb.I don't have any tool bars or any addons but Adblock.

Once I start using Flashplayer to watch a movie it will quickly jump to over 1.5gb of memory used.I would use HTML5 instead of flashplayer but most sites I use don't fully support it for video playback.

Have you ran JRT or adwcleaner or tdsskiller or rkill or hyjackthis or combofix before running your virus scan? I have a lockable secure drive 500mb thumb drive with a bunch of bug removal tools.Makes it easy to get rid of crap and since it's a Secure thumb drive and is unwritable VIA a physical locking switch on the drive I don't have to worry about transferring a bug from one PC to another.

adwcleaner only found two things, both for chrome. ask.com and one of the others. I never use it anyways unless there is something specific it does that the others cannot.

Run Windoze in a VM so you can just trash it when this happens?

Do what IBM does and use a Mac?

I don't understand what all your problems are guys. I use Chrome with no toolbars and Emsisoft and that is it and I haven't had a problem in 4 years. That includes going to porn sites. Nobody wants to listen though.

you should tell them that your server does not have all of the gay midget porn yet. but with help from xi you could hire about 500 people to upload it for you and they would finish in about 10,000 years give or take a year or two. oh and it has much more than spyware.it has a phishing bot to ;) !fu hxtr
