A bit of fun

The owners of the company I work for are members of the local Rotary Club. They put on a fund raiser pinewood derby event, and it sounded like a wonderful waste of time. I bought a ticket & kit car a couple of days before the event, so I had to throw a car together & test in one day. Toe Pincher is the result, and it taught me two things, aerodynamics come into play, even within 44', and money wins races. My car was first out of the gate every time, but got creamed on the straight away. Fun was had by all, and the Silver Dome in DePue, Illinois was packed tight. At least they let you step outside with a beer, nobody gets shook up in small towns.

Ah there is a bit of magic you have bestow upon them wheels and of course proper weight placement...In the end the one who got it close takes home the booty

The Lewis family, Dad, Son, & Son-in-Law took first, second & third. They're hard core, tungsten paste, custom graphite filled wheels, & a test track in their garage. I entered for the food & fun, but also ran on our track @ LKCS, and put my car on the conveyor for a few hours. Here are their cars, sorry I didn't snap a pic of the winners, I was holding onto a Modelo and a shredded beef.

Me and my brother would have won with out CO2 cars back when we was in the boy scouts but some assmunch messed with both of our cars. Our cars were both pencil thin and coated with a nice thick coat of Testors enamel model paint (Which soaks into Balsa wood) to keep them from breaking as fast and graphite sleeved wheels. We took out design from the Top Fuel Drag Cars. We wanted to add a balsa wood spoiler but that was not allowed. We did not have alot of money but we were both very smart kids for our age.

When a CO2 car goes down the track with it's front wheels in the air you know that something is wrong. When they gave us our cars back, both rear wheels were bent outward like someone purposely pushed down on the rear of our cars. The rear wheels were rubbing the body on both of them.

The winner was some big fat kid that happened to be the scoutmasters nephew with a generic Wedge shaped car painted up to look like a Frog. Shortly after that me and my brother quit going because it was quite obvious that the Smart kids like me and my brother and a few others were purposely being singled out.
