There are fewer countries, these days, in the civilised world that retain the death penalty.
20% retain it in law and practice.
The United States carries out more executions than any other liberal democracy in the world.

So, spare a thought for the man who has spent 30 years on Death Row in the USA and has now
been proven innocent of murder... His best years have been stolen from him and the only thing for
which he and we should be thankful is that the sentence had not been carried out.

The monetary compensation to which he is entitled is disgusting, amounting to around $11,000 per
stolen year.
This is a wrong that cannot be put right. An innocent man has lived under the threat of death for
three decades. Disgusting! If it were not bad enough that he was deprived of his liberty, the
mental torture on top makes this inhuman.
I have to hope that pressure groups in his home country will cite this appalling miscarriage of justice
to bring about a profound change in that country's justice system.
Above all, this proves that the system is imperfect and risks sending innocent people to their deaths.
Man did not give Man life and is not empowered to end the life given to Man by his Creator.
