I will also have a couple LiteOn DVD burners, and Win 7 x64 Home Prem.

I feel like I know a fair ammount about pc's, at least I'm not a noob anyway, I can usually do what I want, and fix some for people most of the time. Trouble with me is that when I start shopping, I tend to get excited, and overlook the minor things. Someone double check me and make sure all this is compatible please. And if all works out, I will be ordering this chunk of stuff here in the next 2 or 3 weeks. Depends on tax refund.

I am replacing a core2 quad 6600, with 4g ram, and an old 8600gt 512mb. Will likely move it out to the shop, as I feel the mobo is on its way out, will use it till it dies and then repair whatever fails.

I always like to start from scratch rahter than upgrade.

Just a few things in my opinion I would change. The hard drive...I have heard and have had nothing but problems with the 1TB drives. If you can afford it I would get a couple SSD's and run them in raid 0 for the main drive. I get 471MB read time with mine. The power supply is the backbone for your PC. If your going to start from scratch I always get the best I can afford that way adding components later is not a problem..http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139014 Thow I hear that Dread>XI< ran that type of memory with his, the Asus web site for the supported memory does not show that..http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3Plus/Crosshair_V_Formula/#MSL If you can catch him online you might ask him as well. Hope this helps.

If you want to sell that Q6600 Please let me know as I will be interested. I am a AMD man...6 computers all AMD.

Wizid's right, if you can get a SSD (or more) instead of the caviar black, do it. The rest seems good.

I don't say it's shit. I got a caviar black 64 myself and many green 64 and velociraptors, and I never had any problems and i don't gonna change until they die. It's just if he creates a new config, it's better to have a SSD to run the system and games.

I'll keep all this in mind. I did look at SSD drives, but I can't afford them as this build will already be over a $1000. And I also know that all the ones we have at work on machines and computers are only lasting about 24 to 36 months.

A nice catch on the Ram and mobo compatiblity, I'll have to look into that one for sure.

As far as AMD goes, I like them so far, I have had several over the years, And had several Intels as well, and sorry Wizid, I will be keeping it until the mobo dies at least, and probably get another board for it after that. I always keep my last computer going until I make sure all bugs are worked out of the new one. I have never done an upgrade, I always start from scratch. The old one usually goes out to the shop, but in this case I may just move it over to the other side of the desk and put my tv tuner card in it.

I have many computers and one usually ends up being a test machine at some point in it's life as well.

Thank you all for the input, now I just hope the tax man doesn't keep all my money this year, so I can actually order a new build. I'll know next Monday, what kind of shape I'm in.

I never have like them. If you just want to email, and browse the web, and maybe tinker with pictures, then go for it. And they got a lot of eye candy which is where windows got their idea from I'm sure. But then again, Linux can do all that too, and looks good, and it's FREE!!!!

My father-in-law is the one who taught me majority of my computer know how. He once told me to not waste my time with Apple, and if I did, not to call him as he would disown me, LOL.

Made a few changes to my picks, going with an i7 2600 3.4ghz, and an asus p8z68 mobo, with 16 gig ram, (and I checked to make sure it is on the compatibility list this time)

still getting the gtx 560ti 1g

Same case, but a 1000 watt modular psu, and the V6gt coolermaster cpu fan.

Requested my quote this afternoon, and hopefully nothing will sell out before I can get back home and ok the quote tomorrow after work and get the processing started.

Pop in law is off from thursday, till next wednesday, it's all getting shipped to his house, plus, he's the one who started teaching me about computers in the first place, so he's who I usually call in times of confusion.

WISH ME LUCK!!!!!!, I can't wait to get this new rig up and going.
