Hey gang,

I have a quick question.

Is there a FREE public teamspeak server where I can get my own private channel?  Or is it possible to set up a teamspeak server on my computer?

This is so my daughter and her friends can talk while they play Roblox instead of burning up bandwidth with face time or hogging the phone.

Thanks.

YES,  you can set up a team speak sever on her's or your computer for free.  You just have to down load the server version, have not done it myself  but there are several peeps here who have. Never heard them complaining that it was a pain the the butt.......good luck1

When we had the issues a few days ago I had to setup a TS server on the dedicated server - was literally a few clicks, add some stuff to the firewall and it was up. That's as far as you need to go if it's private as the basics are there for you.

Permissions are a bit of the bitch until you understand them lol.

Setting up a TS server is easy. On Windows as well on Linux. There is some network configuration needed (port forwarding and possibly firewall settings)

I if you don't plan to make the server (more) public and accessible to everyone you can ignore most of the permission settings and use the default. Just protect the server with a good password.

Don't hesitate to ask if you have further questions :)

Thanks everyone and thanks for the link Kapt.

You guys make it sound so easy but the port thingy scares me and I couldn't tell you if I have a firewall. If I have some time this weekend I'll get started on this. And if I have any questions, I know who to ask.

Now should I set this up on our main computer (iMac) or should I set this up on our secondary lap top? The laptop is 5 years old and runs on XP.

The ports to forward are:

Default voice port (UDP in): 9987

Default filetransfer port (TCP in): 30033

Default serverquery port (TCP in): 10011

Default tsdns port (TCP in): 41144

Depending on your Router it is more less easy. Mostlyyou will find a menu like "Network", "NAT" or "Port forward". Something like this.

You need to know the local IP address of the machine your TS Server is running on.

you have at least the Windows firewall. Simply allow the teamspeak traffic incoming and outgoing.

the laptop should be fine. :)

Can somebody translate this for me?

Thanks Techno, it will all make more sense once I get into it.

I have run a TS server from an old laptop for over 6 months no problems. Like everyone else said just some setting to the router will be needed. Trial and error and you will get it.

Do you have a static ip address?? If so it will be easy if not there are simple solutions for that too.

You are lucky there are a lot of IDIOTS here to help you  :)

what OS are using ?

control panel > system & security > windows firewall > allow a program through windows firewall

what Techno is saying is set-up in your router ...... best get a manual and read cover to cover of router

unless is a ISP router you may be locked out, when windows firewall is next option

Hey everyone,

Thanks for all the help, especially the links.

I was able to get Teamspeak set up. Took me a little while to figure out the port forwarding on my modem but is all good.

My daughter says it ROCKs!!!
