Seventy years ago today, soldiers of the Soviet Red Army liberated the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz in Poland.

Six million men, women and children were murdered during the Holocaust.  Many were Jews, others homosexuals,

socialists, artists or trade unionists.  We must always remember this atrocity and never allow any section of our

society to be the subject of hatred or persecution or made scapegoats for our problems.  Never again!

We must never forget and even today be very vigilant

In todays times we are seeing what is happening around the world to Christians

and other forms of genocide

I just pray that should we all need to rise up against such things that everyone will stand as one

Auschwitz is probably the most eery place i have ever been, you can feel in your bones that the place is haunted even when you're outside buildings like the gas chambers.Being inside some buildings for too long is almost impossible and i saw some visitors rushing outside to get some fresh air. What you see and feel here will change you forever.

Let's never forget.

Related to this, in the early 1990's when I was a graduate student, I was doing research at NATO headquarters in Brussels. I had to go to Warsaw (that in itself is an extraordinary story), and one of the greatest honours of my life, and a very proud moment for my dad, was when the Canadian embassy asked me to lay a wreath on behalf of Canada at the monument to the Warsaw Ghetto. All these years later, it's still a proud and emotional memory for me. Oisbrukirt mit tsores iz der veg tsum bais-hakvores (The road to the cemetery is paved with suffering).

Yes the world is in a mess we must remember the atrocities and try to prevent more although we are not being very successful at the moment as Danger pointed out.  We must strive to be better
