Have had loads of trouble with headphones ever since my new pc came with win 8 on it. Managed to get it working somehow, not sure what I did, but my mic was hit and miss. Went to play tennis today, came back, left comp on, and earphones will not work. Never have worked in front socket, won't work in back. Taken them out, put in phone, work fine. Replaced in comp, nothing. restarted comp, nada. Mucked about more with settings, ziltch. Swore at comp, nowt. With WIN7 it automatically detected whether I had plugged in my USB mic/headset but sometimes with WIN8 it will not. I go into CONTROL PANEL>SOUND and then manually enable the headset and/or disable the other audio devices so the headset id the only device left enabled. Go to the sound in control panel. Open it up select the recording tab. Then highlight your mic and select properties. On this page select levels! See if it has become muted somehow. My old mic would mute itself all the time even in game! vIf this is your problem just keep a watch for it in the future. If not I am out of ideas! Good luck! But they DO play in my kindle and my phone. Could it be where they jack into the pc itself? And why wont they also work in the front panel, why does that not work?? Earphones worked in phone, and kindle hdx, but not on comp. Sonovabich suggested xxxxxx that I buy a usb set, so whilst looking I found an adapter for £2.39 bought it.
