I'm happy for this to be the hotel of choice. Can ring in the morning to see if I can get an "XI" group set up for hotel reservations.

Jay...I kid you not, I showed that to Edd and I called them earlier! They're willing to do a group discount on a group of 20, but that's an upfront payment which frankly I can't afford.

Prices seem reasonable, considering the place is in downtown Berlin. I might go for the on-site parking, or I might fly, not sure yet (it's an eight hour drive for me...) but I deffo like the idea of it being in Berlin. Dates are far enough ahead that I can plan, this should be OK.

 

Once we have the group of people penned in, we can discuss group discounts. i think 20 people is ambitious, especially given some people's tendency to say "yes, I'll come" and then ditching you towards the end. If you have paid an up-front charge and a few people don't show, that's your money gone. So we want to be a bit cautious with that.

 

I do like that you've picked a place and a date without too much hassle. I can tell you're used to wrangling small children efficiently. Which is, essentially what this is, except less diaper changing. Well done you.

 

I don't think we should orient our budget in GBP though, by July those are going to be worth less than 1€ and it will badly skew the price expectations of those of us not from the Land of Leaving. Let's try and do the math in Euros

Ok, so to avoid any hassle, a handful of us in discussion on teamspeak, said it would be easier for everyone to book their own rooms. If you want to share with someone, then please discuss with said person and arrange payments to each other so you can book the room.

 

The date is the 21st to the 23rd July 2017.

 

The hotel venue is the intercity hotel Hauptbahnhof in Berlin city centre near Tegel airport.

 

For anyone interested, the best prices around £149 (€170) for the 2 nights for a room with a double bed or 2 twin beds. These are the non-refundable options. The free cancellation options add an extra £30 (€35).

 

Flights should be in to Tegel airport to minimise the taxi costs to the hotel.

 

Flights from the UK are around £140 (€165) at the minute from Heathrow.

 

Flights from Newcastle are around £195 (€245).

 

Flights from Stockholm are around €145

 

Flights from Oslo are around €160

 

Flights from Copenhagen are around €95

 

Flights from Rome are around €210

 

Flights from Bucharest are around €200

 

Flights from Paris are around €140

 

Flights from Dublin are around €210

 

Flights from Schippol are around €150

 

These are all flying into Tegel. If you fly to the other airport, it will likely be cheaper but the taxi fayre is going to be around €20 each way from the southern airport to the hotel, so weigh that in your decision of where you fly too.

Sound like a good plan mate, we (me and my girl) are probably taking the train to the Hauptbahnhof just to get a trip out of it, and we ar probably gonna be in Berlin a few days extra, either befor or after XI fest, if it is before we decide, we can take care of greeting people in the airport at get caps/train tickets to them. But we haven't decided yet.. So I'll get back with some answers in the near future.

I have to say that the hassle of booking rooms en masse did give us better rates and also it locked down comers (mostly) because once you sign up and someone's money is in play, you're less capable of simply bailing out at the last minute.

But this works for me.

 

I haven't decided on fly or drive yet, I might drop by my step sister on the way up and take the duckmobile. If I do, I will b eable to ferry up to two idiots plus JohnRambo to and/or from an airfield to the hotel and back. (I owe JR a ride after York. Everyone else is first come first serve and if you're over 6ft you're going to have a BAD fucking day sitting behind my tall ass).

 

Are we opening this up to regulars who aren't members again this year, or are we strictly members-only this time around? I have a feeling some of the Battlefield regular Zonks might be inclined to show up for a few beers.

Can I grab a lift? I'm exactly 183cm...so I am willing to suffer. Lol. Also Mrs said she doesn't want to come with the kids in tow, so it's just me...

 

As for opening up for regulars who aren't XI...I leave that to the admins to decide.

 

As for the hassle...I'm not sure I can afford to go (100%) and have just booked the time off work just in case. I'm also looking at a fair phone bill this month for calling Germany a lot in the last few days. Lol

Generally our fest are open for all to join. Member or not. The point of the fest is to have fun with a bunch of idiots. Doesn't take a clan to make an idiot (just an xtreme one though!). hah

 

For non-members it's a good chance for them to get to see a side of the clan some never do and might convince them to hang around more
