The fan is spinning fast to cool down that beast and it's noisy. Other than that the GTX470 is a good performer. GTX570 will run cooler... But of the two cards you pointed at, the 470 is faster than the HD5850... GTX470 load temps: HD5850 Load temps: It's in celsius of course... I canceled my GTX470 pre-order when it came out, when I figured the temperatures and the NOISE!!! out. I bought a HD5870 instead (10% faster than GTX470 in MOST games), but cooler. I like nVIDIA, but I'd either got for a GTX460 (mid-range card) or a Radeon HD6870 (already mentioned by above poster), or wait for GTX570 (december)....price drops also on HD5850, HD5870, GTX470 and GTX480 My two cents... It's a nice card, and it runs cooler than GTX480, while being 15% more powerful. WIZID, Those cards were nice also, and I agree that AMD HAS to work on Crossfire scalability...but I think you can run two HD5970 can't you? Dunno about the particular case of the Hd4870X2 tho... All in all, with ATI/AMD, you dont want to go more that 2 cards (or two chips) for that matter...to stay out of trouble... nVIDIA SLI scales so much better Awards

Now, let's see how the new AMD HD6970 (HD5870 successor) fares against the GTX580....just curious...the HD6990 (HD5970 successor with dual-GPU) will be interesting to watch... If I was upgrading my monitor, I would like to grab a better, faster card, but on a 22" at 1680 X 1050, my XFX HD5870 is still more than enough... Awards
