I'm not sure but I think it use to be a sound card driver issue with some onboard sound chips. Like realtec. Just remove your driver and let the OS reload its generic driver. But as I said not to sure been a long time sience I installed cod4

It's a common problem, one of the fixes is to update your sound drivers but it might have been better to do that before you installed cod4, just google iw3mp.exe and it should give you plenty of possible fixes, but updating sound drivers is the one that usually works for me.Smile

Mine starting acting really weird lately too.  Pretty frequently when it changes maps, my screen goes black and it opens about 20 different instances of COD4 and keeps opening them.  I have to go into the Task Manager to get it to stop, and that does not kill it right away.  Anyone else ever have that happen?

I heard, while in ACE yesterday, someone said there is some kind of virus that is currently making multiple instances of COD4 load at the same time. They said Kivorski or something like that would remove it. I just kinda overheard them talking about it, I can't remember who it was. Was it you PigDog???

I will do some goooogling.Laughing

I've never had that happen ^^

But I do get the iw3mp.exe error Markoff.   Usually the game just shuts down and I have to wait for the error to pop up before I can rejoin.

I think this is one of the issues that makes CoD 4 not being (completely) supported by Vista and now W7.... I boot vista or w7, sometimes I get the problem, never happens under a XP boot

I also was having a problem with the iw3mp.exe error.  I did a google and found a youtube fix.  I went in and renamed my mssmp3.asi file to mssmp3.bak as it showed in the video.  I havent gotten the error in the last 4 or 5 maps, but I can no longer hear the music on the winning side.

I now have the same problem, BUT slightly different. i have my profile, and my 3 childrens ones.  ALL theirs work, but mine dosent

 plz help

i can follow people thro xfire(sometimes) or i can load up a kids profile and play a game, then log out into my profile and play, with redused graphics.....

aaaaaaaarrggggghhhhhh...

tried resetting headphones/mic. tried renaming my asi file to bak. tried asking nicely, and cursing and finally begging it.

IF anyone could plz help me, i would love you for ever, trust me to get an unusual problem. would it be a deleted linl to the game? i can't see why not, if only one profile wont work unless i play a game on another(kids) profile then log of and rejoin with mine
