over this last weekend (saturday), one of my longest time and best friends had a massive heart attack. He was defribbed 3 times in the ER, and a whopping 41 times on the operating room table. I know that sounds exaggerated, but believe me it's not. I'm pretty sure this case will make a paper or thesis for the AMA journal, or something to that effect. He had a 100% blockage in one of the main arteries above his heart. He had been taking his high blood pressure meds for 2 years, but with that blockage it would not have mattered. Fortunately my buddy survived. My buddy is 44........that is probably the median average of members of this clan from what i gather (maybe not but the point here will stand). I post this as i sit here and contemplate my own situation at 45 and what i can do to help myself to avoid such a catastrophic situation. As may be true of some of you, my lifestyle is semi  sedentary. The only real exercise i get is at work. Even though i ride a lift, i still do alot of walking, to which i always try to walk briskly and not drag heel. I have my physical due very soon, which i will request what is called (or pertains to) a sonic(gram) xray or something to that effect. It will show your vascularity on film without having to have dye injected in your blood. It will also show blockages, if you have any.

The point here folks is dont take anything for granted and for God's sake get yourself checked, whether you feel you are at risk or not. Im not necessarily panicking about it, but it has jogged my peabrain quite a bit and against my lazy nature, spurring me to more action and concern than i had previous. My hope is all here are in good health, but maybe some thorough checking might ensure that you STAY in good health. Good day to all you idiots, but dont be an idiot about your heart!!!!!!!!

( and yes i am still smoking!!!!)

Or you could be like me, 10 years ago after a heart episode I had a double bypass.

A couple months ago after an incident with a rapid heart beat ( 155 per min ) I was told that tests showed I never needed the bypass I got 10 years ago.

Go figure. Undecided

Sorry to hear about ur friend but glad hes made it.  Yea I learned my lesson about 8 yrs ago...I almost lost my dad.  My dad was on the verge of having a massive stroke and luckily we got him to the doc within minutes or we would have lost my dad.  He didnt want to go to the hospital but my brother and 4 other cops got my daddy and took him to the ER.  He also due to something with the sac around ur heart but it was infected from years of having high blood pressure and not takin meds but anyway they had to remove that and with that being gone...he can NEVER have any bypass surgery done.  So we do live everyday like it could be the last.  I am a huge daddy's girl and that totally turned my life around.  I was overweight and stressed out to the max.  I started a diet and got my butt to walking.  I never take a day forgranted.  Now...I dont let much bother me and I make sure to eat healthier and exercise everyday.
