Many of us think we are too liberal here with our criminals as can be seen in another post on the death penalty.

Well how would you like to be in Norway and have lost family to that idiot who killed all those people and admits to doing it?

Did you know the maximum sentence he can receive is 21 years?

No life sentences, death penalty in Norway

Sachedina said the typical maximum sentence for criminal offences in Norway is 21 years. The country does not use capital punishment or life sentences in its justice system.

So much for Liberal laws.

It just is not fair to the families who have lost loved ones.

I think that a death sentence is too light punishment, I think he should be tortured so he has to suffer as much as thevictims before he's executed.

i dont like the death penalty too but i would like if there where something likes stoning.

its a way to easy to kill him just because this would be the best exit for him so why dont we punish such peoples? that would be great.

stoning and spitting on them woohoo that would be fun.

usally im not on of this guys who likes to torture, or like to see how others get tortured but in this case it has to be something likes that.

Shamu, I tend to look at other countries' justice systems and say "it works for them".  I applaud the dignified reaction of the Norwegian people who will emerge stronger after all this grief and pain.  Their country may well be very different after all the legal process is over but not in the way the perpetrator wanted.

My heart goes out to the family and friends that lost loved ones in that senseless tragedy. Up to this point Norway was a peacefull country with very little severe crimes. Unfortunately things may change...

When u live in a society where murder and crime is the norm, you become hardened to the fact.  Its a sad day when you felt safe one day and did not the next... Things will never be the same in that country i fear...

As for person who commited these crimes... Death is the only justice,

There is no guarantee that that will be true, there is just as much chance of the opposite happening.

I have little doubt that the action will cause some kind of reaction. Only time will tell.

To be fair to the Norwegians, they do have a clause whereby after 21 years of incarceration, they can decide if he/she poses a continued threat to society and they can keep that individual incarcerated indefinitely. Canada has a 25-year maximum, but we also have a "Dangerous Offender" clause reserved for serial killers, serial rapists etc. Animals like Clifford Olson, former Colonel Russell Williams and Paul Bernardo will die in Prison.

My problem with the death penalty is that there is too great a risk of condemning an innocent person to death because some lawyer was more persuasive than another. Look it up via Google: How many innocent people have been executed, and how many more are on Death row? Search "Cameron Todd Willingham" for example.

The vileness of some crimes makes one scream for the ultimate retribution, but the risks are far too great, and as a deterrent to further crimes, it just doesn't work. just my $.02

I agree it may not happen overnight, but its things like this that make people sit back and think. A death penalty is an easy way out compared to a fat horny guy named BUBBA for the rest of your days..

Actually, if that was one of my kids, I would be glad he didn't get the death penalty. I would be camping outside that prison door for weeks waiting for him to come out. And I would make sure somehow he knew I was waiting for him. I would send him a copy of that recent film "Law Abiding Citizen", cut right after the scene where he tortures the guy who killed his family. That way he could feel the kind of terror that those defenseless kids on the island felt when he gunned them down one by one. I would even keep him alive as long as possible so that he could endure days and days of pain and suffering

The best part is that I would gladly carry out the same process on him that the guy in the movie did. I know a lot of people say revenge is no cure, but I would not be looking for a cure. I would be looking to make him understand the fear and suffering he caused to a bunch of kids - the fucking coward. It would be time for him to be picked on by someone his own size. Only then could I be at peace as knowing I did nothing to avenge my child's death at the hand of a callous coward. A coward who is only a big man with a gun in his hand pointing it at helpless kids begging not to be killed.

Piece of shit does not deserve to live among decent people

I being the hard ass that I am find myself in a quandry over this. The bible states that you should abide by the laws,

but in medieval times these were horrific laws and sentences at times with no logical justice ==so who is to say their laws are better or worse? The bible also says that thou shalt not kill, but it also says an eye for an eye. I want to say, gut him,and let the buzzards finish, but then ...who am I to judge a life? My gut feeling is to make an example of him to deter any others in his wake.He is clearly the villain--- an eye for an eye.

In Casey Anthony's case, the court has made its decision by a jury and we must respect that. We all think she killed her daughter, just like we think O.J. killed Nicole,  jurisprudence was done by jury and all we have is the media to base our verdicts on--like a thumbs up or down as the way we see it from the stands, and god forbid we repeat history-- just in a different forum.

well it is bad here and people go on rampages killing ten people at a time all the time so often .BTW in norway  they have around 3300 prisoners average on a daily basis total and 25 % of those  3300 are foreignors...What ever they have been doing in  the past has worked but this one turns things upside down.

*without a doubt he should not be breathing at this time.

So why the hell are paperback books still $2 more here, and many consumer goods are still far cheaper just across the border?  :-)

Good thought Labob, I wonder if that's the case? If so that's not a death sentence perse,  but life all the same. Still doesn't seem enough though does it? But all you could do to him will never fix what has been done.  All I can think about is those poor kids begging for their life scared like we could never imagine. Lot of shit goin on in the world but this one really haunts me.....I don't know.. been doin alot of introspection. This one kinda fucked me up as a human, you know what I mean?

hupp... they are talking about 21 years for that guy here. that fucking idiot. . but as said before. after that time i can be held for longer. death is just a easy way out for him. i would nail him to a cross. feed him with (IV) and let him hang there for rest of his life. so people can to what the fuck they want with him.

i talked to my famely and the girl who was out there yesterday.  she hided under a rock. when he shot everyone a round here. about 9 10 people. he reloaded above here... he was so close that she coud hear his breath.  and that fucking sadist laugh when he turned away to find more kids.  she had a friend with here. who got shot in the stomach.  she died in here arms.  i cryed my eyes out when seh told me the stories from that hell island.
