hi there

im running a nvidia  zotac g force 8800 gts graphics card which has been brilliant for the last year. playing all my games etc on high spec.

however over the last three months, when i have been playing i have been getting a problem which is really random ie may happen once a week. or three times in a day.

as im playing the game scren locks up and i get a wash of mutli coloured straight lines running in all directions which covers the screen. i am unable to do anything with my somputer and the only way to shut it down is to turn the electricity off at the mains. i will then re start the comp and it will be fine

i have all the latest drivers for everything thats in my computer including graphic ones and everything is up to date

your help please

thanks

I agree with CHKN, Clean that bad boy. I just did mine and temps are way down. They are easy to  take apart. Apply some new thermal paste, it may help also.

The 8800 GTS-GT  have been good to me, and i overclock teh shit out of them. BUT. The 8800GTS does not OC that wellFrown but still a great card. My 8800GT has been running at 700-950 for years. I never  had a vid card go bad yet. But NO JOB so I hope my old 8800 keeps on rollin.

I have one 8600GTX XXX laying here and the first signs was like you have said. Cleaning it isnt going to help you now but try WiZiD link and for sure and I almost bet that the card will be 'dead' in a few months. You might need to check if the card has a newer BIOS to flash in, but in both cases; be careful(of course)

Yeah Bloomslang there are only three Companies out there that sell cards with Life time warranties EVGA, XFX, and BFG. Zotac is not one of them. You might want to replace the the Cooler with a Third Party Cooler do some reseacher and try to buy one on eBay for cheap since it is an older card already. Lots of coolers going around eBay these days for olders cards. I did for a 6600GT I have sitting around the card was artifacting and I replaced the cooler and till this day it still works, I use to test peoples machines to check if there VGA card is fried.
