Today my little Cockatiel, Rocky, passed away. He was a happy bird who loved to whistle, chirp, and be whistled and chirped at in return. I have been fortunate to not have experienced death of loved ones that much in my life thus far, but it is really tough.

yes it is tough... especially a cockatoo - they are like a small child. Sorry for your loss... cherish the memories you have. Another bird will not fill the spot, but it does help.

Lost my dog just before Christmas. Had him for 15 and a half years. I still wake up looking and listening for him and same when I come home from work. Pets are part of you family and part of your life. Sorry for you loss. At least your friend had a life with somebody who cared.

Sincerely sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my shadow of 13 years (she was 17 when she passed. She was a pound rescue) 2 years ago and her absence is still felt. Keep the good memories close to the surface. Your friend will always be close by.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Very tough to loose a pet/family member. We lost our girl (bulldog) Delilah when she was only 6 1/2 a year and a half ago and I still miss her. You remember the good times and what you meant to each other, dog or bird.

I don't know about losing a bird LMFAO but My husky that we called Anika started peeing everywhere when we moved to a new house. I didn't want to replace the expensive berber carpet so I sold her. What I didn't realize is how much I loved her but I knew how much she loved me. She woud jump in our bed and with her paws push my ol lady out of the bed LMFAO! because she knew I was alpha and thought she was #2. Today I miss her so bad and hate myself for selling selling her . She was a loyal dog. I'm talkng risk her life to save my kids loyal. I hate myself for selling her . I think about her every day.

I can't and don't want to imagine what it will be like when my dog dies. I was not the original owner of my bird, but my dog has been with us from the beginning.

When you adopt a pet, it's for life. They rely on you for everything, they give you unconditional love, and give you all that they have with no expectation of reciprocation. You are the center of their universe. The shock of taking away all that they have known is devastating to these creatures. I feel for your former companion, but at least you recognize what you have done. If there is a next time, try and understand why your companion is doing what it's doing, and work to mitigate it. Owning a pet is a responsibility. Work with them and give back what they give to you.
