so my ac was running a quite a bit warm today. so i popped the hood and checked to see if the compressor was running. it was not. i had my wife turn off the ac and the car then turn the car back on and turn the ac to max. the compressor came on temporarily then dropped. i do not have a high side pressure gauge just the gauge for the low side. when the car is off the low side is over 100 psi when the car is turned on and the ac is turned on the pressure drops to 80 psi for that split second the compressor clutch engages. i have a 2005 nissan altima and was going to just jump the relay to force the clutch to engage and see if its a bad clutch but unfortunately altimas of that year have a wired relay the is tied into something else and i really dont feel like splicing a lead to the battery in. Any one know how i can fix this. i dont think the clutch is bad but i cant test it. could the pressure be too high cause the system to shut off the clutch?

Pressure switch is for too low of pressure and shuts off the clutch to the compressor. If you jumper the pressure switch and clutch kicks compressor over then you are too low on freon.

If the clutch was bad it would not come on

Most all systems have a low pressure & high pressure cut off switch

Low normaly cut off between 20-28 psi

High normaly cut off between 375- 425 psi

It may just be low on refrigerant

If it is DO NOT use refrigerant with sealer !!

It can damage the compressor

Use refrigerant with an oil charge

i tested a theory and let out some pressure from the low side and the thing came right on. after letting quite a bit out the low side is staying around 45 psi

Beers is correct  the feon 134a has leaked out an safety switch is kicked in to save comp

 

 

the condensor, seals are # 1 spots for leaks   an evap 

 

need to pressure test system with nitrogen (500lbs) over nite if didn't find right away

 

repair leak than fill R134a  1lbs and  compresuire pag Oil

bring it to a tech.its low or leaked out.or just buy a $30. kit at autozone and spend 15 minutes topping it off.gl

Venting HFC-134a Refrigerant

 

 

Section 608 of the Clean Air Act prohibits releasing HFC-134a into the atmosphere. The prohibition on venting HFC-134a has been in effect since November 1995.

To properly diagnose this .....will need both high side and low side pressures car @idle and about 1500 rpms with more reading. And readings after it is off to see what the pressures do. :sleeping:

i agree with damage ur better off taking it to professional ....for them to check the air only like 40-75 dollars for them to fix...ur not goin to figure it out properly unless u know something bout air units on cars trust i been there done that and i use to work on cars..gl to u
