I hung up on them and went online to find this has been going on for a while. evidently they get you to screw up your computer when they are claiming to help you fix the problem and charge you on a credit card ... the call comes from a call center in india... MICROSOFT will never call you like this if there is a problem.... im sure some of you know about this but just in case I thought I would put it out there!!! P.S. I never even turned on my computer... There is nothing that can be done to stop them I know because most of the big telephone company's have tried to shut them down but by the time they are tracked down they move.. On average there is around 2-3 hundred people in the UK that fall for this daily (These are the official company stats but that's only the ones who admit to falling for this scam its estimated that the figures could be double if everyone came forward), mainly the elderly and people who are new to computers are the ones falling for this :rant: Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options... If you are listed in a phone directory you are likely to get such calls. One of the benefits of my former career was that I could be kept ex-directory but, when that ended, my excuse to stay unlisted ended and the nuisance calls escalated. But, like Labob, I do play with them - I just hope that I never get a legitimate call from someone with an Indian accent... I like asking them questions when I am in the mood to waste ten minutes or so (they are paying for the call after all...) So, when they ring up, find out what their favourite colour is or the name of their pet if you don't want to take it to a technical level. She is just your average computer user not really up on stuff like this but was suspicious at what they wanted her to do.
