Ok tried posting just a few minutes ago and not sure why it didnt go through like i wanted it to. im building a new pc so i can play again. i have the money to do so now and this is why i have been gone sort of for such a long time. im stuck on the case and chipset. the video card is a place holder until the 980 comes back in stock. lemme know your thoughts and if i have anything conflicting that would cause me problems. will post when i order everything and post pics of the build.

Looks good but seems like a lot of overkill on the case.

I agree the case is a bit much. There are plenty of nice cases for 1/2 that much and the money saved can be used elsewhere.

edit: After looking at all the water cooling stuff I suppose a case with glass on the side is a must so you can check it all out now and then for leaks without having to take the cover off. In which case the extra cost would probably be worth it. I am still not sold on water cooling because when it goes wrong the whole rig goes bye bye.

Very Very nice case but a Little expensive. If possible I would wait 1 month till Black Friday and get everything Alot cheaper.

1 AWESOME thing about that case is,it's Aluminum.Once you get your 1st Aluminum PC case you will understand what Im talking about. They keep Cool better than Any thing out there. The whole case is basically a big radiator. It will feel Cold to the touch even on the Hottest of days if you have enough Fans in it.BTW that case is HUGE 25.6" x 9.9" x 27.2"  and 41lbs.My Corsiar Carbide 500R is a Big case for a "Micro ATX / ATX" case.20.5" x 8.1" x 20" and 16.6lbs Dude that thing is the size of a small refrigerator

I would get 16gb of memory.I've been running 8 gig in 1 of my machines for a couple of years and it will use a little over 7 gig running Windows,my favorite Anti Virus,Arma 3,and TS open.If I wanted to Ditch the Pagefile I would be running out of memory. Also it doesn't hurt to Future Proof your PC a bit just in case.

Those Closed loop Corsair coolers are really really good for the money.I've built a few dozen PCs with them.the 1st gen H40 and H50 were the only ones that had problems leaking.I've built PCs using the H50,H60,H80,H100,H80i and the H100i and the only one that showed signs of leaking was the H50.And it didn't really leak but it was seeping around the copper water block/pump base.

Only thing I wish they had was an inline Flow meter so you could SEE the fluid moving.Something like this little cheap guy.

Nice but the price puts me way out of considering such an upgrade! My rig is just as fast with older cheaper equipment! Tho your big advantage is you will be up to running all the new stuff coming down the pipeline! Happy playing!

i know the case is expensive, but im sorta dead set on getting it. as of right now the money is of no issue. and id like to reuse this case for builds to come. i like hows it filtered all the way around and the styling. and i like big cases. gives me room to mess around with, so much room for activities. the processor is the refresh on haswell, which is a 4790k i do have 16 gigs of ram on the list. what are your guys thoughts on g skill?

Couldn't be happier with my G-Skill memory.I have 8gb of G-Skill Ripjaws X series pc3 12800 ddr3 1600.I got the memory speed that was compatible with my motherboard so I didn't have to go in and monkey with the timings.I could of went Alot higher on memory speed but I'm kinda glad that I didn't.

Check the motherboard for compatable memory speeds. The motherboard you want supports.4 x DIMM, Max. 32GB, DDR3 3300(O.C.)/3200(O.C.)/3100(O.C.)/3000(O.C.)/2933(O.C.)/2800(O.C.)/2666(O.C.)/2400(O.C.)/2133(O.C.)/2000(O.C.)/1866(O.C.)/1600/1333 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory

It will run 1600 without having to monkey with timings but the other Higher speeds will give you a very Noticeable improvement in speed. You might want to do some research on what memory speed to run with that CPU and Motherboard combo.

http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/MAXIMUS_VII_FORMULA/specifications/

Quick question. What GPU are you planning on running?850 watt is good for 1 big power hungry card or 2 that require less power.Lets say that you will run 2 GTX 780 cards your power consumption will be up to 848 watts with everything else running. With 2 Big power hungry cards you will want at-least a 1000watt power supply. They recommend 750 watts or greater for just 1 ATI Radeon R9 290X card on Newegg or 600 watt or greater for a GTX Titan wich I think is a bit on the Light side. Those cards are very power hungry.

Here's a power supply calculator.

http://powersupplycalculator.net/

BTW the Corsair AX series power supply are very very good.I really like the Fan setup on them. The fan will actually throttle down and shut off until it needs to cool down.Very very quiet and very stable.I've done a bunch of testing on my 2 year old AX850 under load for stability and it doesn't drop more than .01-.02 volt on both the 5v and 12v circuits drawing as much power as my current hardware can handle.

thats a good point on the psu. i will in the future upgrade to a sli config. so i need to look at a high wattage psu. and the ram is 1866 which is okay with the mobo. im looking to run 1 gtx980 for now then add another when the prices come down. g skill seems to have the best reviews and the best prices. glad to hear they are good.

Your case is off the hook expensive!  Take a look at this one.  I just build 2 PCs with these cases - they're awesome.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004K4TEA4/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B004K4TEA4&linkCode=as2&tag=girlsrockradi-20&linkId=KZTOXMZ6KN7YKZEP

Video review on the case:

Your paying a premium on that Corsair PS.  It's probably made by Seasonic anyway.  Cut out the middleman for some savings.  Good call on the Platinum, but Gold is probably just as good.  Beyond a certain point in these ratings, you're splitting hairs anyway.  I OC'ed the shit out of a i7-950 (128% of rated speed) for 5 years on a Bronze 850 and never had a hiccup out of the PS.  Lower power consumption in the Haswell processors translates to less power required of the PS, so you can likely go 750W and still be operating within the PS's sweet-spot power output range.  If you're going dual video cards, stick with the 860W or higher depending on what the video cards are going to need.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151087

I think that wide radiator is going to give you fits in the case - almost any case.  Be really careful.  Scan YouTube for build videos of that radiator and your intended case.  I went with a single-wide Corsair radiator.  They fit in almost any case. Completely pleased.  Not sure there's all that much more efficiency in the wide ones.  But if you're really trying to push the edge of OC performance on a close-loop radiator system, go for it.

Not sure where you're going with that 256GB SSD.  Personally, I'm not a fan of them as a boot device at this time.  I think the technology needs time to mature into that role.  For now, SSDs might be great as a host drive for games, which will then load up WAY faster.  But again, IMHO, the PC's boot-time is a poor reason to go for a SSD as a boot device.  You boot once.  You load programs, games, and data all day long after that one boot.  So where does it make sense to put the high speed drive - boot, or selected programs/data?

Go 16 or 32GB on the RAM.  8 is painfully small these days, but 32 may be overboard; you're call on that one, but not 8, okay?  I have 32.  Forget the ROG RAMDISK that comes with that Mobo, btw.  I was not impressed.  Make sure the RAM specs are appropriate for your processor and mobo.

Didn't see a video card.

I wanted that case too. but it was pretty expensive. so i went with this instead

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139022

It really showcases your mobo and GPU's

i aslo went with the H100i CPU cooler.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181032

It keeps my overclocked FX-6300 nice and cool and has the Corsair link so you can change the cooler of the icon on the pump

I aslo went with 2 GTX 970 instead of one GTX 980 because the 980 is only like 15-20% more powerful then a 970...and for only $100 more you can have 2 970's in SLI that is just amazing!

i'll put a few pics of my PC up with my case so you can see the option i took.

I really like that case. If you watch the Newegg video they have it on a swivel. I have one of those...WOW what a difference in building a PC. Sooo much easier. No more lifting the PC to get to the other side. If I can find one I will post it here.

1.something like the corsair 750D will give you ample room to move around and is half the price of the 900D with same great build quality.

2. the corsair H100i is ,in my opinion, a far better choice over the H110 as you can connect it up to your motherboard and control everything through corsair link including the color of the corsair logo on the CPU block.

I would be concerned about the weight. If you watch the video I posted you will see this is a huge case with a ton of options. Once you add water cooling and all the components it gets really heavy. And a bitch to turn. The one I posted is designed to stand on. Some of those lazy suzans have steel ball bearings, a little more expensive but may just work. The one I use is 15' round. And that just made it. Found this and I will buy it as well.

It really makes building a PC enjoyable. Especially for an old man like me with a bad back...hehehe

It really makes building a PC enjoyable. Especially for an old man like me with a bad back...hehehe

oh believe me i know all about how heavy a pc can get xD had to lug my pc up a flight of stairs because i haven't got the space to build in my room. i was just pointing out that you dont have to spend $100 to spin your pc around.
