For the last few years I've gotten by with my GTX 560, it dealt with cod4 sufficiently so I never needed to upgrade as cod4 was all I played.

Now with all these new games about and the need for better gpu's I decided it was time.

I found a barely used evga GTX 680 4gb classified locally that I'm going to pick up tonight.

http://eu.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?pn=04G-P4-3688-KR&family=GeForce%20600%20Series%20Family&uc=EUR

I'm looking forward to not having to run low settings to get better performance. If I can get a couple of years out of it before needing to add a second card I'll be happy. Paid $300AUD, I think that's an ok price for a top of the line 680. Cant wait to install it!

My connection is 125 down 3 up on fibre.

It's the best I can get here at the mo.

Shows how long since we played together last. I'm the fastest oz based player here.

GTA huh? Sounds interesting!

There is supposed to be some fibre pipeline in the works to increase the speeds to USA. It runs from Sydney through new zealand and makes landfall on the west coast of America.

They say it will at least double the capacity and speed.

Completion is set for late 2015.

Expect me in the low 100's for ping if their projections are correct

Here's an explanation of ping for you.  A more realistic expectation could be the high 200s for a 32,000km round-trip, perhaps?

Well not high 200's I'm at 245 ping now so I expected to go lower again but maybe I've got it as low as I can get it for the distance that I have between me and the server going by what that article said, even with the new cable.

With efficient routing you may be able to scrape off a few milliseconds but there is nothing you can do about the time it takes for you data to go another continent and back. I live in California and the best ping I can get to the east coast is 84 ms, well around low 80s. So.... yeah!

I got fibre optic a couple of months ago and my ping came down from 150-180 to around 100-130. It only improved my connection to the local exchange. A fresh cable that goes all the way from my house to chicago and its lovely fibre optic network would be nice.
