The compression the site uses really degrades the shots. The RAW images are just awesome. I'm still a novice myself, and my wife and I did a bit of research before settling on the Canon 70D kit that came with 2 good lenses. It helped that I won a Microsoft Surface RT tablet at a trade show, and it came with a gift receipt. I exchanged it + some cash for the kit. It all depends on what your budget is. Get the best camera body (new or used) that fits the budget, plus at least one good lens, and slowly build from there. That's how I built the lens kit that I have for my astronomy hobby. Built slowly and patiently over time, looking for new or used (mostly used) deals on top lenses. Other than that, I honestly don't know enough yet to even begin to offer good advice. There are a bucket-load of photography forums out there with a lot of good advice. Good luck! hxtr 1 Awards

Hi @@Leadfinger, Thanks! I was over the moon when I saw how the hawk in flight shot turned out! See the first post on this thread for camera and info on one of my telescopes. That 'scope is a big hunk-o'-glass, a 4" f8 800-ish mm triplet lens of the highest quality. I have an adapter for it so my camera can connect to it directly. The 'scope then becomes another camera lens. I also have a 13.1" f4.5 reflector that the camera can connect to for short images, mostly of bright solar-system objects. I also have a dedicated solar telescope, and a couple of other specialized telescopes that I can't use the camera with, though there is a very cool adapter that lets me use my smartphone as a camera with these telescopes. That's on my radar to pick up eventually. I haven't dipped my toes into astrophotography yet. I'm primarily a visual astronomer, but my camera and remote-control tracking mount has me itching to try my hand at photographing the night sky. I plan on experimenting with it over the Summer, with the help of friends who have been shooting the night sky for years, and have won awards for their work.
