I was browsing on which SSD card brands/size i should consider. I have marked the "transcend 256 gig" for $75...

is this a good deal ?

is it a reputable brand ?

should i consider more gigs or is 256 good for now ?

If down the road i wanted more can i put in more then 1 SSD or do i just buy one with more space ?

thank you for answering these questions :)

If you use it only for the OS and programs that dont take up 50gb of space each... meaning games... then 256 should be good. But if you do want your games on it then 512 would be essential. Personally, I have games on a secondary HDD since they take up so much space and I dont use them much. Dont know about that brand but never had a problem with my samsung. Just be sure your mb can handle achi. It should. Also, you will need to either reinstall the OS (better in the long run) or change out all the needed drivers.

Ok yea anything made within the last few years is good to go. Each BIOS is handled differently but somewhere is the setting to enable it. Probably in the same place as raid control.

ACHI is the mode that an SSD uses to communicate..."Standard IDE" is the default mode...In the BIOS you change from "Standard IDE" to "ACHI" or "RAID" if you are configuring a RAID setup...

Never spent much time looking at those seagate hybrid drives. Are they actually significantly better than a good hdd or just a gimmick?

I have a WD Black Performance 4TB and I get 200MB/sec seq write rates on large files. SSDs are low on power but the value isn't really there yet for the high performance, high capacity SSDs. If you're on a budget, WD Black Pro is better than its Seagate rival. My 5 year old 1.5TB seagate died on me when I tried to load Adobe from it. I have a 10 year old 200GB Maxtor and its still rocking, I am just amazed.

My WD Black 2TB failed the various tests with too many bad sectors after about 5-6 months. The tests would get to a certain point then either slow to a crawl or come to a dead stop. However they quickly replaced it with an rma 3TB drive so I have no complaints.

I got the black drive for the 5 year warranty as much for as the performance. The typical 2 year warranty these days just seems too short and suggests that after two years the failure rate goes up.

For SSDs I have 2 brands.

I have a 250gb Samsung 850 pro - fantastic product and clones your old drive to the ssd providing you have the space.

I also have 2x 250gb Intel 535 SSDs. Again brilliant kit. The software on this will also give you an estimated lifetime as well, based on how many writes it has done etc.

If I were to choose...I'd go Samsung every time, but price wise Intel had a great deal that I frankly couldn't pass up on amazon.

I'm going to say this only once. There is only two companys you should ever  consider purchasing from when it comes to SSD's. Samsung (evo series) preferably,or Intell!!!! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147373&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-Solid+State+Disk-_-N82E16820147373&gclid=CJfrwtqbv8wCFdKIfgodLlwE8Q&gclsrc=aw.ds Don't be a cheap ass!! As Arnold always said, DO IT, DO IT NOW!!!!

SSD is the only way to go unless you want over 1TB of storage, and even then there are lots of options.

Example of a deal today: Adata 960GB SATA 6Gbps for $188:

Newegg via eBay offers the Adata Premier SP550 2.5" 960GB Serial ATA 6Gb/s TLC Internal SSD, model no. ASP550SS3-960GM-C, for $187.99 with free shipping. That's tied with our mention from three weeks ago as the lowest total price we've seen. (It's a current best by $12.) It features up to 520MB/s read speeds and up to 490MB/s write speeds. Deal ends May 9.

It is like buying a new computer the speed difference though.

You can get a EVO 256 or 512 by Samsung EVO 850 or the Pro 850.

256GB like $88 bucks or so and $144 for the 512GB.

Having and hard drive and ssd... no thanks.

SAMSUNG EVO 850 !!!! I have 2 . Samsung developed their own memory controllers, whereas the rest use the Sandusk controllers. Mucho problemos with the Sandusk. i boot from a cold start in less than 30 seconds. A restart takes half of that.

Yup nothing wrong with a 256 ssd for programs.... assuming not loaded with big games... and a wd black for everything else. Basically thats the idea behind hybrids anyways but keeping a clean boot ssd with programs and swapping out or adding hdds for the heavy lifting as needed is preferable. Albeit more work to set up.

See.....The hybrids are a no no btw. Because if one of the drives fain in it then you have a half broken coffee coaster. And yes, they break a lot.
