I think the Ryzen is definitely going to be my next CPU , the performance and power consumption is unreal compared to Intel. I'm just waiting for prices and models first , it should be soon...

Ive often thought about building a Intel machine.

To this day I have only built AMD machines.

I do not have a running hot situation as I never have in any of my builds

Then again I never use the stock cooler that comes with them

I use AMD for the price my current machine runs fast enough to handle anything I throw at it so far

So in short for now I guess I will stick with my AMD good luck to you

Its also not just heat but power usage. For both the amd cpus and the bigger fans needed to cool them. In many places, like mine, power usage matters a great deal due to the pricing tiers. The usual calculators say X dollars per year. But people tend to put base rates. But bump it up to level two rates and the cost doubles. If you have a family it might even go up to level three. If you use your computer a lot, like I do, it adds up.

Intel has major heat problems during the Haswell series ,do a search on google and you find a lot of info about that ,it has to do with TIM (Thermal Interface Material) .

The Haswell refresh are improved but its known that they run hot at overklocking .

Yes even hotter then AMD Bulldozers .

AMD FX and Intel's i5 and i7 series all get very hot with heatsinks. Why not go with a hydro cooler on any CPU? Your CPU will have a longer life with hydro cooling.

AMD FX and intel are both good processors and intel may have plus 5 FPS on average depending on the game. Other games AMD is better or Intel has the higher FPS. It all depends on which CPU is best for your favorite games.

Either way AMD or Intel your PC will perform well. Most games rely heavily on the GPU so the CPU doesn't really matter unless your playing a game like ARMA which is more CPU intensive... That's the only modern game I can think of that heavily relies on the CPU.

You can't be an NVIDIA, Intel, or  AMD fanboy. I have used any of these 3 at some point because one was better than the other for the games I play.

Pick the right parts for the job you want to do. Eventually I know I'll be back with AMD in the future because it will do the job better. I'm not intel and NVIDIA today just because everyone says they are the best. It just performs for the tasks I need them for.

Also this rumor that the i7 hyper-threading actually boosts performance in games is false. In BF4 you only get a couple more frames but it is not worth it just for 2 more frames per second. That's it, HT only gives you +2 FPS.

I have studied pretty much only amd set ups and i w as considering switching to Intel. now heres a few questions

Is it worth it ?

I5 or I7 ?

Whats the difference between lets say I5 4790 and I5 6600 ? (what do the extra numbers mean?)

Whats a good Mobo you recommend ($100-$130)

What all do i need to convert besides Mobo and Cpu ? (I have gtx 750 ti ftw gpu)

Will intel be a better choice in long run with games ?

Will I5 6600 be sufficient for a couple more years or should i scrimp and save for I7 ?
