Need PC help in major way

my pc crashed, again. My brother, who works updating company pc's throughout the gulf south, tries to fix it, but only makes is worse each time.

first he said the power supply went out... again. used all my $ and got a new one, then he said the video card blew. he got a very old pc from his storage unit and I'm on it, with my own hard drive running, but it won't play ANY games, much less keep up with youtube videos.

This is driving me mad and acerbating my depression. I try to tell him that right now, being online is my stress relief and all I can handle. He wants me to go for a walk instead. He hates gaming and may be sabotaging mine to "try and help me".

OK, here's what happened, that I know of. (don't know about what he did to it.)  was playing with y'all when he asked me to go to the store for him. came back, pc was off and wouldn't turn on, (i left it running as it was dl a map). Got a new power supply, he installs it, then said the vid card died.  I can't afford anything else. I'm even having to return the power supply so I can put gas in my car.

when I try to load cod it gives me a direct x error. DX is up to date , DX 11.  Can't get around error.

anyone have any ideas beyond getting a new PC? I have $10 until unemployment kicks in or I get another job.

direct x is video related you should be able to run dxdiag   In Windows, search for dxdiag and click it to run

this opens a screen and it should also list errors so you can find where to look. He may be right about the video card. Best thing to do is check all basics. make sure cooling is working, make sure all plugs are tight. Especially with a new power supply all plugs have been played with to change it. Also dont forget to remove and replace the ram. A simple bad connection there from being bumped (power supply replacement) can cause you issues.

I think this pc is just shitty. I've tried all my games and none work. I've also asked my son to look at mine, which is on the floor in the other room. he says my vid card won't fit in this one. ?

Seems your Nvidia video card drivers aren't installed.. that windows 7 is just loading the default VGA drivers.

Do you know what model Video card you have?  Try downloading the correct drivers from  Http://WWW.Nvidia.com

Then you shouldn't have a direct X issue I believe.

Also, Windows 7 Should have at least 2gig of memory at minimum. your info said 1gig.

 Ok. it's all figured out and my brother was full of shit in his diag.    my son came over, who is familiar with my machine, and we found that the power supply is fine, he gave me a better graphics card, but my motherboard is fried. That's the ONLY issue. I love my brother, and am using his old, ancient, pc until mine is up and running, I will never let him work on mine again!

Only problem, I can't afford a motherboard right now. I'm still waiting for the couple of weeks of unemployment money, and I don't start my new job until the 31st. (oh yeah... I got a new job. I'm an event coordinator, but I'll spend some time at the bottom first, passing out samples at Sams club ans such. good job, good pay, good hours. )

Anyways, if anyone has a working motherboard not being used that they could part with, please send it my way. Just pm me if you don't have my cell number.

Janey, I know you are short on cash. I just built a new gaming rig that is beyond my expectations. I do still have my old rig and that is still a good build that will run everything. with exception to BF1. It's a little laggy and only gets 25-30 fps. just for that game. I'd be willing to let it go pretty cheap if you can come up with the cash. Let me know if you are interested I can give you the specs on it.
