Well....sometimes when i play CoD4 .....my game crashes and i get the iw3mp.exe error. it happened nonstop to me tonight.....but didnt happen last night when i played...but has happened before...it comes and goes. From what i researched they say its a audio problem...but i tried all the fixes i could...

i changed the mssmp3.asi file to mssmp3.bak

ran it in admin mode

my sound drivers are up to date

So did anyone else had this problem? and figure it out? if so let me know. i really dont wanna reinstall if i dont have too...(pain in the ass)

Thanks Teleck

i did the uninstall and reinstall of Punkbuster like Psychokiller told me to do, then I also downloaded the very most current Realtek HD Audio drivers and installed them. Current as in I think they were from November 2011. I have not had this issue again as of yet. But like you said, it comes and goes as well, so only time will really tell. I just did all this last week.

is your microphone plugged in? seems to help most people.

sometimes its better to just go out and get a 20 sound card that does not use via chipsets or realtec. And a usb mic. Only way I know of to solve this issue so it never comes back. The next method prfered by most great games is to play WAW :)

DAMN, I had exactly the same shit last night, game crashed all the time (Iw3Mp.exe Error) but i dunno why. Hope it's gonna be fine this evening. If we're several players to have the same problem in the same time, maybe it's not a computer problem... The problem is out there...

Update your sound drivers, but you may need to reinstall the game to the new drivers, if you just updated your sound drivers and the problem started immediately afterwards then roll your drivers back

I'm pretty sure Activision could have put a fix in one of their cod4 patches seeing as it mainly happens in cod4, i know the patches came out a few years ago but this problem been around since cod4 came out. :no

Cheap solution to this error -worked for loads of people.

If you have a headset plugged in, unplug your speakers... Don't know why it works but it does...

Go to your recording devices, right click and enable show disabled devices. Then enable all of disabled devices. Don't waste money on a new sound card, worked for me.

I had the same problem this morning after installing COD 5. Turns out all my machine needed was a restart and it was working fine after that. I leave my mic plugged in permanently as i know with Vista and Win 7, the cod series after 4 likes to crash without one plugged in. been that way for years. hope your problem is sorted out by now.

I had this problem a while back but mine was the audio problem. As it turned out my sound card was too old and the drivers did not support the audio in game very well. It sounds like you've tried all that already though. How old is your sound card?

No i am not running my ssd drive as my main hard drive, but my pc want's to automatically load everything to my C:\ drive by default, things like itunes that are on my 2TB D:\ drive also have files on my C:\ drive and when i copy cd's to my ipod or itunes etc, they go into the C:\ drive , the same with cod 4 i first put it on my D:\ drive then i look and see the Activision folder etc is on my C:\drive, same with BF3 i have it installed on my D:\ drive then see plugins etc are on my C:\ drive, i don't understand all this crap, my last 3 PC's had one drive the C;\ drive where everything just went automatically...simple, Rockape gave me a possible fix, type regedit in my search box then follow this path locate HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE SOFTWARE- MICROSOFT- WINDOWS-CURRENT VERSION then in the box to the right of that locate program files double click on that then change the value in the box from c:\program files to d:\program files, i did that next day my machine would'nt start up, had to do a restore, another problem with that is i see 6 otions for my C:drive there 1)CommonFilesDir 2) CommonFileDir (X86) 3) CommonW6432Dir 4) ProgramFileDir 5) ProgramFilesDir (x86) 6)ProgramW6432Dir so maybe i have to change all of them to D:\ Program Files but i dare'nt mess about with anything like that, it's really pissing me off and now to add to that i am getting fucking iw3.mp.exe problems all morning when yesterday everything ran fine.
