Can't connect to Blk Ops, get a message that the servers are down and to check the Blk Ops servers "are not available at this time" and to go check the status but the status looks okay.

There seem to be many issues in these early days.  I guess they couldn't beta test with a cast of thousands...  My game has been crashing every 3-6 games sometimes requiring a restart of the PC to resume play.  It wasn't this bad until the game update came out one day after release - that was supposed to make better use of the quad-core CPU here!  I have, hopefully but not confidently, updated the video card driver in case that will do something.

Shamu i am having the same problem , i can play single player but cannot get in multi player ....

Question:

 

If the problem is relative to a recent update would System Restore be of any help?

 

My game ran fine until Fri. afternoon.

 

Or perhaps reinstall, and go back to square one without any update installed.

I think Phantasm is having the same issues. He can play multiplayer but not single player. Also he is getting cant connect problems too. I was on after work last night and no one seem to have any issues other than people needing kick so XI could get in there.

A whole range of connection issues today...

 

That affecting the XI servers is an inability to connect at all.  But at least one UK server is also affected and I'd guess that the >1 minute wait to get on anything (compared with around seven seconds previously) just indicates the strain on the network during the first weekend following launch.

They brought all the ranked servers down and did something that fucked them up .. but what u can do right now is try a little "force the update"thingy in Steam that might help you a little .. go to your game library .. then right click on BO multiplayer select properties the select local files and go down onto the 3rd tab saying "verify integrity of game cache" and click on it and wait till it finishes ... i know Tball posted that up.  it worked for me.

well I am getting the bloody message as well and as far as I can find out the whole bloody system keeps crashing they fix one problem only for another to crop up they have even tried to completely shut everything down and did a restart for that to fail.. Fucking great they should have just let us have our own bloody servers this is total crap..........

little update ... servers are brought down again as we speak and rolling restarts on its way. sit back and relax and we'll be kicking eachothers ass soon enough :D

We're back to the server browser problems again.  XI's have disappeared completely and they seem to have "lost" around 6,000 today!  Only a few hundred actually appear and one has to wait for them to trickle down the wire.  It's a shambles.

yes Dj .. they brought servers down that had issues and they are fixing the problems as we speak .. went from over 10 k servers down to 2000.

my game only shows 27 svrs availabe with nearly 6000 offline so i think  it may be a victim of its own success and drashed a large part of the steam setup somehow,kill you all in cod4 ftag instead

I can't even get to where you can see the browsers.

 

I start the game to load, the little circle thingy freezes and I get the can't connect message.

 

This is not looking good.

Deleted Steam and reinstalled, same damn problem.

 

I did use my existing Steam account instead of creating a new one. Could that be a problem?

I am close to returning the damn game.

I got this message, last night, having been kicked from the game, when trying to re-connect.

 

You should be fine using the original Steam ID and that'd retain the progress you'd made so far.

 

The damned crashes are as big a pain as the connection problems.  I have very little running in the background but I am darned sure I am not going to take a firewall down and expose my PC to port scanners et al.  Haven't Activision heard of PC security??!

 

I run AVG Internet Security and that has a gaming mode that ought to cater for the demands of the game whilst keeping the shields up.

For the crashes make sure directx 9.0 is up to date, you can try any or all of these to eliminate steam as the cause;

 


(1) Disable Steam Cloud sync:
   Right click on Black Ops Multi in steam games
   Go to Properties / Updates / Uncheck Enable steam cloud sync.

(2) Disable Ingame Steam:
     Steam / Settings / In Game / uncheck “Enable Steam Community In-Game”

(3) Lower the CPU Priority on Steam process:
     open your Task Manager
     click the "processes" tab - then click "steam.exe"
     go down to "set priority" and set to "low".

Shamu .. i got this message about 4 times yesterday .. they are still having network issues and theres nothing wrong with your game what so ever ... just force the update and ull be fine ... game has bugs right now but they are working on it and things will be fine in the near future im sure. and no need to return the game.
