I have seen the power supply cause symptoms like this. Has a pc that would crash often, took every thing out of it except hard drive and it ran for days just fine, added things back one by one, such as power to dvd drive, then put TV card back in, then vid card. it would run everything up till the last component was added. removing any one of them would stabilize the whole thing. turn out that it had shorted out on the extra 4 pin plug to motherboard, but it could keep up as long as not too many things were draining it.

I am not a long time pc repair, just hobby in it a little, learning as I go. But if it were drivers causing the problem, wouldn't it show it's ugly head just running the operating system and not wait till he starts gaming?  please explain if I'm missing something, may help me out down the road.

ok, got an update

i had a really shitty day and it was all my fault.  did too many stupid things.

so i get home, and start drinking.

while im sitting there and the room is spinning, i decide "hey, i should reload the OS, that will fix everything"

WRONG!

same issues

either the game still freezes up and have to restart comp with power button

or while in game, sound goes away and im left with a buzzing in my headphones and i walk around with no weapons or gear, the game locks up the comp.

tried running at lowest video settings.

tried running without antivirus running

so it has nothing to do with the old vc and its  ATI drivers.  thats the only thing i am sure about now, after all that fucking work.

this is everything that is loaded atm:

Capture.PNG

**added adobe reader after pic was taken**

any of those gonna cause an issue??  i wouldnt think so, but i dont know.

someone suggested checking the memory sticks.  just want some clarification on that.

this is the info in the mobo user guide on the memory.

2.PNG

i have my sticks in A1 and A2.  what would i do to check them?  where do i move them to?

i wouldn't think it would be the memory sticks.  before i changed the VC, i could run COD4 no problem with those sticks.

but now, with the same sticks and new VC, bad video lag and freezes in COD4.

but i guess its worth a try to see if it is them.

or i can just do this, which is what im leaning towards.

you have 2 4 gig sticks take 1 out leave the one in a2 and try if it happens then try other in same slot if same happens try in a1 slot and repeat

i know it sucks but eliminated that you dont have a bad ground on one of those slots but lets hope just a bad stick of ram

I agree with above: Power Supply + Mem settings.

Also I want to add is, did you update the BIOS for your motherboard? Most of them are memory related ones.

What you can also try is to run your memory on higher latencies and maybe test the CPU by UNderclocking. And be sure you have the latest motherboard drivers installed.

Looking at your installed programs list, you need to reinstall the video drivers and choose custom installation.Only install the driver and physx,do not install the hd audio driver.

I would either say the card may be faulty, or the drivers issue. I would start by running uninstall utility for BOTH cards AND uninstalling BF3.  Try reinstalling frivers for new card then game.

the other issues could be the PS may not be rated for that card. They usually have a 12V requirement (such as 30A on the 12V rail) not sure what else to suggest..

Why not the HD audio driver? If you are refering to Realtek HD Audio, lately the ones released on http://www.realtek.com.tw/ are one of the bests ever.

i tried just having the graphics driver alone.  failed

tried graphics and physx.  failed.

tried graphics, physx, audio.  failed

tried it without all the 3D driver stuff.  failed

tried each stick in every slot and in every combination.  failed every time.

don't know anything about overclocking or underclocking.  no idea how to do it.

not sure how to run the memory on higher latencies.

mobo is up to date already.

something on the box in small type i saw before and posted is:

"minimum 450W or greater system power supply with a minimum 12V current rating of 24A" (which my power supply meets with 650W and 12V rating of 25A)

far below it is a note in font so small i never noticed it and i had to use a magnifier is  "Minimum system power requirement  based on a PC configured with an Intel Core i7 3.2GHz processor"

never saw the note before, and it is no where to be found online.

but i don't have an i7.  i have an i5 3.2GHz.    Might that be an issue?

That's not saying you need on I7 to run the card, that's the minimum you need if you had those components.Your Enermax psu has a 50amp 12volt rating,so shouldn't be a problem.I always go overboard on psu's because they lose some of their rated output as they age,(if it has more than 2 pci-e connectors try another one as it might be on a different rail).

If the card is EVGA,call tech support and if they can't figure it out they'll give you an RMA

Hey mate you should have read my previous posts... I had the same issues and after trying everything and I mean everything... I discovered it was 2 things.. Firstly and formost POWER SUPPLY ..I had a 800w psu and although in theory that is more than enough power it was not stable (it was a cheap one) so it kept causing my comp to crash or lock up when Running B3. You see the game uses a lot of your resources and every component uses more power so you need a good more stable one that gives a consistant stable supply....

Secondly my case was not giving me enough cooling and was causing overheating which had a knock on effect to the power supply my fans were drawing more power ect ect you get the picture...

As soon as I changed my power supply and case PROBLEM SOLVED..

Just a thought mate good luck

The only thing that has changed in his system is the video card. Things related to video card:

Power supply

Drivers

Old drivers (unclean install)

And video card itself

Secondary related would be ram corruption due to videocard taking too much power. Just because it says 750 watts doesn't mean it is actually 750. Some CHEAP brands ADD THE RAILS TOGETHER to get 750 watts. You actually have two 375 watt supplies. BUY A NAME BRAND and BUY BIG. Check the amps on the rails also.

Compatability of ram to mobo and video card. I can't run solidworks on my computer with G-Skill memory (fully signed and compatable) but can use El-cheapo and it works (unsigned) or I can run SW and G-Skill with my old video card. Sometimes it's a toss-up as to actual compatability.

Your mobo website should have a list of memory that is considered compatable. It will say the actual brand and model number such as Viper Xtreme Series, Division 4 Edition

See if you can beg borrow or steal a power supply to check your system. That would be the 'cheapest first" route. If you live around southern Oklahoma I'll loan you mine for a while.

Run memtest or other memory tester overnight just as a check. If you have problems put your old card in and run again overnight. That will tell you if it's memory related.

If you have done a thorough driver clean of your system and still have issues my bet would be faulty card.

Keep chugging along and be sure to touch you case before you touch any internal parts. I usually rest my arm on the case to insure no static electricity build-up. I know how you feel on this. I bought Solidwork and went through the same basic scenario. Good luck and be sure to post a resolution so others may benefit.

I realise this is late but I just found this site

http://www.coolermaster.outervision.com/PSUEngine

It has a wattage calculator to help power supply choices. Congrats on the fix.
