Yo my computer peeps!

With the iminent release of BF4, I was thinking I may need to upgrade my CPU (and eventually my GPU)...Here is what I currently have:

AMD MOBO -  Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3

AMD CPU (6 core) - Phenom II x6 1045T

Nvidia GPU - GeForce GTX 660 (2mb)

12 GB memory

Corsair CX750 Builder Series ATX

Here are my Novabench scores in case that helps...

NovaBench
Score: 1182

SO, I'm sticking with my AMD Mobo so I need to sitck with an AMD CPU.  I was thinking the 8350 since it's only $175 right now and I'd get an 8 core unit with pretty solid numbers for the price.  The other option is upgrading the GPU and leaving the CPU as is...I've got about $200 to play with so it's kind of a one or the other deal.

Any thoughts from anyone on which to upgrade?

Thanks!

Your system is not bad now but if you want to upgrade some hardware, I'd upgrade your graphics card.

Check your mobo specs what it can handle. Sometimes it is cheaper to sell it all and go for Intel i5 or i7 ;)

Desktop all the way. Not just because of $ but for upgrade options as well. But that's just my opinion.

Download the open beta when it comes out and see how your current rig runs it.

Pingy,I have an iPhone 5, isn't that enough for you? :)

I was thinking I should wait and see as we'll, just worried it won't handle it we'll but I currently get 70+ Fps on BF3 with settings on high.

The other thing I'd actually like to get is a new monitor as I just have a 22" Aon that's only 60hz.

I'm so torn!!!! LOL

Thanks all!

Flushy.

Just get a new high-end gpu preferably Nvidia cards and you should be rolling with your existing rig.  I believe your mobo has pci exp 3.0 not 2.0

even mobo that has pci exp 2.0 still be ok because most games up to now are not yet utilizing the benefits of pci exp 3.0

To me desktop all the wwwwwaaaayy!  if they make laptops with the option to upgrade discrete gpu I'll in for it.

And you link to a (flawed) desktop PC! The PC has a bit of ways to go before it disappears. Sure, the growth is in tablets, phablets, and smartphones, but the PC has its entrenched place in business productivity, real gaming, and anything that requires complex input. Most of the 3 items I mentioned are accessories or are ancillary to PC's.

Disclaimer: My home has several iOS and Android tablets and phones, Windows 7/8 PC's, iMac's, a Hackintosh, and Linux servers.

I don't think that you will find a better video card than the One that you have for $200.Unless you want to go with an ATI card.

The 7870 2gig 256 bit cards are a Tiny bit better than your GTX 660

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121649

Or this one.It's a good bit faster than the GTX 660.ATI 7950 3gb 384 bit $224 - $25 mail in rebait. $199

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125414

You can sell your old video card for around $150 on Ebay pretty quickly and add that money to the $200 and get a Very powerful Nvidia GTX 760 4gb 256bit card.$305

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130944

You have the best $200 Nvidia card currently on the market until stuff goes on sale in the next month or so.Sales for video cards and PC Memory usually start next month and end somewhere in the 2st weeks of December.

I plan on upgrading my memory when it drops back down to $40 for an 8 gig kit.

Added a Netgear N dual band wireless usb

Now my card is only a 460 Gtx

I will upgrade that next but it runs great now

Just dl-ed bf4 beta and want to test on the 1st

So to the point the AMD 8350 is a good stable CPU at a good price
