why is my ping so high in Brisbane when only 100km away people have better pings than me. I live in a major city not far from the exchange my ping testing comes back excellent but yet your site is the only one that gives me a worse than normal . How can this be.

If they are in different locations then yes it makes sense that your ping will be different. The only way to know for sure would be for both you and one of these 'others' to both perform the steps on https://www.xtremeidiots.com/topic/58088-network-guide/ and send me the results.

Different ISPs will mean different routing etc so that is a likely cause. It would not be specific to our services but to any service hosted in the same data centres that we use.

Mine is the same Nighto, normally 320 but every one and a while I get 275. We both got 275 is on the old server location, but since the move to Canada our connection suffered the same fate.

I would expect your ping to be around what you're saying. But to clarify are you saying that sometimes on the current server it goes to 275? If so could you get me a tracert of it at 320 and on at 275 and I can take a look.

Yes the distance explains our pings for sure.

I will tracert for you and post when I have both examples. Dropping back down to 275 is a rare occurrence but it does happen.

I guess the server move to Canada added more distance and therefore increased the ping as a result, but the fact that some times it does come right is confusing. I will let you know when I have both tracerts.

I imagine the reason is that you get the 275 when you go via a cable to the east coast and the 300s when you go via Europe. I wrote a script that Geo-Mapped Nightos connection accross the globe and came out with this:

Some of the points are a bit iffy and default to nearest city or country. I kind of like the script and may refine it and stick it on a website.

I wonder if my ISP could force my data to take the east coast route rather than via Europe? I play less these days due to the extra ping. It would be great to play more often if I could get back to 275. 320 is just frustrating after a while. Anyway it is what it is, I'll call them and see what they say.

It is the case for Nighto but I would need the tracert at 275 to know for sure.

@@Nighto please make sure you are regularly offering a sacrifice to the internet gods. May you be blessed with lots of internets.

@@NITRO did you ever run that TCP network stack optimizer for Windows? It may help you cut down OS jitter. As far as the network route goes, you can ask your ISP but I don't think they can offer you much of an option there.

@NITRO https://www.xtremeidiots.com/topic/51806-optimizing-your-windows-network-tcpip-settings-for-less-lag/?hl=tcp#entry558219

It's bit dated and the guy doing the walk-thru isn't always clear. I am assuming you use Windows 7 Pro and not the Home Edition. Hope this helps, I need to try this out on my Windows 10, not sure if it is entirely needed but I guess I will find out.

Not sure if I have pro but can get it if the TCP optimisation is worth it. Cheers @@iboomboom
