Hey All,

So for a while now, while gaming, my game will start to lag or stutter.  Everything gets to the point of freezing, including sound.  With BF4 I would stutter for about 30-45 seconds and then I'd be right back in game.  With BF1, 99% of the time, I'm getting booted out of the server.

Here's my system

ASUS M5A97 R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s AMD FX-8320 Liquid Cooled nVidia GeForce GTX 970 16Gb DDR3 Ram During gaming, my RAM shows that I'm using like 40% and my temps are staying cool.  All my drivers are up to date on everything!!  It's quite annoying.. anyone have ANY ideas?  Any help is appreciated!   Thanks, Hammer

Firstly you need to narrow it down to 1/. Computer or 2/. Internet, i.e. does this only happen to gaming online or does it happen offline, the comments on the modem may be valid and you may want to check firmware/software.

If computer the mostly likely culprits are the ram or the video card, if you can swap these out then fine, if not then it becomes a lot more difficult, if online then try turning off background programmes one by one. I had this years ago when the ram on my bang up to date video card was incompatible with the motherboard, fixed by a (very dangerous in those days) motherboard flash.

Welcome to the wacky wonderful world of BF1.  Do you have DX12 turned on? Turn it off in video settings, advanced.  How much video ram to you have?  3 GB?   You can try the memory limiter setting.   Try turning down some of the other settings.  Shadows, light effects, full screen AA, etc.  Ask in team speak for a thorough list of everything you can try, and then let the next person answer with an even longer and somewhat conflicting list of other things to do!

I don't believe it's the internet...  it HAS to be something in my PC...  my son plays the exact same games I do with zero issues.  I might try limiting some things in my Video Settings and see if that works.  Like I said, it happens in BF4 & BF1 but none of my other games :(

Does your son play on the same computer with the same link to the internet??, if not it could still be either, but presume your household has a network in which case yes your computer looks likely as you say, so yes try experimenting BUT WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING YOU DO and do one thing at a time, then if same issue persists restore it. I like to put things in simple terms initially, your picture is stuttering, so there is a bottleneck somewhere, or interference, stopping the information flowing correctly and fast enough to your picture. Now this could be a number of things, start with the programme itself then progress to the computers software and last of all the hardware. If you are unsure of what you are doing, especially if interfering with the OS or hardware then do not do it, better safe than sorry, do not touch the bios unless you are absolutely confident in what you are doing, remember one thing at a time if that doesn't work put it back.

He has his own PC but same internet.  Both wired connections.  Yeah, I'm going to do a process of elimination...  just hoping it's nothing expensive as I'm not working right now and can barely afford to keep my bills paid

what speed is your ram?and have you tried running it with only 8gig instead of 16? i know that if you have 1866 Mhz ram and run it on all 4 slots it drops the speed to 1600Mhz will run 1866Mhz only  with 2 sticks of ram in duell channel mode?

Honestly I'd have to look.....   I got the RAM from another gaming friend who upgraded to 32G and gave this to me...  it's 4 different sticks (2 sets)...  I can't afford anything else

I have Time Warner's Turbo... so 30 down 5 up.  Like I said, my son plays off the same router and doesn't have an issue... but I'll double check the firmware...  I'm going to try and pull 2 of my ram sticks and game off of 8 gigs and start there....  I've updated all driver's, so that's not it...  just annoying as hell :(

Oh Oh remember hardware last? if you do pull the ram check that remaining ram will work in those slots, you need to read the mothernoard manual, I must admit I would suspect ram but perhaps look at other things first, a longshot but check the ram you got from your friend is compatible with your motherboard, and = (I hope I don't regret this) the bios is set correctly for the memory. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT I MEAN ABOUT THE BIOS PLEASE DON'T TOUCH IT.

I did double check the firmware on my router, and indeed, it was out of date.  Could have SWORN I had just updated it.  I haven't had a chance to play longer than about a round or two and normally it's a few rounds in that it does it...  I'll play a little with that and see if that helps, it not... onto the next item on the list

Yes wise old words from a 'Southerner' in Darlington, a check on the internet often shows the same problem with other people, I hope it's that simple saves a lot of hassle, I hope they don't close your market FledMarshal I love the mince and dumplings from the butchers on a Saturday morning. But as I said before the computer is the last resort not the first in most cases, its usually software problems., I know its cold in Ohio at the moment, it is here in Northumberland too.

So I played about 3 rounds tonight...  1/2 way into the 3rd round, it started chopping.  I got kicked for something about bandwidth/latency...   I've NEVER had an issue before!  Is this because of my ISP or is it hardware related??

Your internet speeds aren't fast enough to pass the information by the sound of it, bandwidth goes down a lot if another person was using your internet at the same time, latency is the amount of time the information takes to travel the system. Simple test, play an older less graphics intensive game, then play your latest games, bet you don't get chopping with first ones - solution faster internet speeds if you can.

The fastest internet I can get in my area is 50 down 5 up... I'm rural and it's hard enough to get THAT out here!  I had zero issues with BF4...  I upgraded the RAM and then I started having the issue.  I WAS running 6Gigs of RAM, so a friend sent me the 16 I'm using now and that's when it started.  I don't have ANY other RAM to use.  I gave my kids my 6 gigs because they were using 4 gigs.......   so yeah, it might be the RAM, but I'm not working so can't afford to even upgrade and see if that's the issue...  I'll just have to deal with it for now

Ah now we're getting there, remember what I said earlier about Ram, firstly find out the make and spec of the mremory hopefully its all the same then :-

1/. Get your motherboard manual and find out if it accepts that memory spec i.e. size, speed and frequency

2/. There will be a bit in the manual that tells you what is accepted in each memory slot, make sure you know the slot numbers from the diagram

3/. It will tell you what the settings should be in the bios, hopefully auto is selected.

4/. It may be that your previous memory was configured dual channel and these sticks won't work dual channel, especially for two pairs

Now this is a fairly complicated subject and some level of expertise is needed but not beyond anyone who treads carefully, for now only use two MATCHING sticks of memory in the slots recommended in the manual, come back after you've done this, take two sticks out. Memory gives numerous random problems and others will nod their heads when I say this, it is possible that two motherboards the same one will accept, one will reject I've had it happen a couple of times.
