I am having issues with my PC.  When I play COD4, after being on for awhile, it varies, my PC crashes. When I say crashes, the computer never shuts down. My monitor goes black then reboots itself for me to log on again to get onto the internet and it 999's me in game.

Does anyone have any idea as to what's going on and how I can fix it because it's so annoying and driving me nuts...…!!!

Please help me......?

If this is only happening after gaming for a while may just be getting hot. Try taking side door off to get more air and check that cpu and video card cooling is not blocked or just dusty. Dust in cooling is like car low on oil lol. If it isn,t cooling problem next guess would be a strip of ram going bad or video card. Good luck !!

My computer is about 6 months old. I did take off the side door and pointed a fan into the tower but it still happens. It is not dusty inside the tower either. It just better not be my video card!  I'll scream!!

Thanks for the suggestions Zappy!

Try running this to see your hardware temps.  https://filehippo.com/download_speccy

or this for a more comprehensive suite of tools: https://www.hwinfo.com/download/

The advantage to hwinfo is that it has a logging protocol so you can see at what temp your components were operating when this black screen occurs; by the time you start a program or pull it up, the temps have already cooled down considerably.

I used to have an alien ware computer, and this would happen alot with it. The fan wasn't big enough to cool it down. I'd always have to end up buying a new graphics card. Well my boyfriend at the time gave me some ram, and then my dad gave me his old card that had a double fan in it. No trouble since.

What are your pc specs? Info like this can be helpful. Also make sure to include what case and cpu fans you use.

does it have onboard video?  is so pull the video card and use onboard video and see if the problem persist.  If so next I would check the ram.  I figured you have checked to see if the case fans are working.

Is this your pc? https://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/desktops/inspiron-gaming-desktop/spd/inspiron-5675-gaming-desktop

I have read that dell driver updates have fixed this issue for some people. Click on the link and then click on the blue box that says, "detect drivers"

Hope it works. If not we will work together to fix this for you.

Hey!

U can also install Whocrashed (freeware for the basic version) and launch an analysis when restarting after a crash.

It will say if it is a pb of driver (and which one hopefully) or a hardware pb as a faulty ram.

Let us know ?

Yes that is my PC. I ran the Diagnostics scan both mini and full test and my PC made it with flying colors. No issues it passed all the tests. All my drivers were up-to-date.

So frustrating....

I just thought of something else, while I'm sitting here at work (supposedly working lol) and it dawned on me that it began happening when I started using TS. Could it be that?  I had that issue with my old computer when I used TS and it crashed my game. What I will try to do is when I get home from work, uninstall TS and reinstall it again and see what happens. It can't hurt, right?  ?

If you use teamspeak 64 bit and your pc is 32 bit it might crash it.

Vice versa, correct?  I will check it when I get home. My best bet is to uninstall current TS client and reinstall 64 bit as that's compatible with my pc.

Thank you for all your help Angelz and EVERYONE else that responded to my S.O.S.  :D

Well, so much for that. I uninstalled/reinstalled my TS and it still crashed. Then, I tried playing without being on TS and I crashed as well.  I will keep trying different things to see if this issue can be resolved, otherwise, it's very discouraging to game like this. Kind of makes you not want to even try. :(

How long does it take to crash usually? Still think its worth trying to hook it up to your Tv and see if its the monitor itself, or maybe try and borrow a monitor/tv from a friend for a night to test out?

Hello Scarlett!

Did u run Whocrashed to have a clue about the cause of the crashes? Could be usefull.

It could be a faulty ram. How many memory modules have u got in the PC?

If you have several modules, u can remove 1 if you have 2 or 2 if you have 4 and test your PC without these modules.
If it works, it means that one of the modules is faulty or even only not correctly set in the slot.

It's the first time I hear that a monitor can cause a BSOD. Weird!

So, I searched and found a discussion in a forum about that:

https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/lcd-monitor-cause-bsod-error-involving-nvidia-driver.1188980/

Maybe you can try this solution pointed out in one of the answers:

i have the same problem with the BSoD and after reading your article i figured out that it actually is the resolution i use for my LCD monitor....i get the BSod on 1240x768 but now that i use the default 1280x1240....there have been no BSod which before happens at least once after every startup...now how weird is that...BSod cause by resolutions...can that be possible?? or am i getting it wrong....

Hi VHS2,

I will d/l this program when I get home from work.  I hope it helps as well in finding out how to resolve my problem.  Like I stated above, my PC does not crash, it stays on the whole time, the game freezes up, then a black screen, then it restarts again for me to log into my pc but the computer never goes down.....Thanks so much for your input! It's MUCH appreciated! ?
